Sawdust bars go bad FAST. Most of my first batch now has nice fuzzy mold spots.

Mozzarella prosciutto basil roll is a small piece of heaven on earth.

Happy hour today, at work, will include something from Dittmer's. Life is looking up.

Mozzarella prosciutto basil roll is just really great stuff.

Oh--if you like that, you may also enjoy mascarpone torte layered cheese. I used to get it at Cosentinos when they had a location on Homestead. It's mascarpone, some other mild-ish cheese, pesto, and pine nuts. It's amazing.

I love the fact that when I open my mouth to put a slice in, and I haven't chomped down on it yet or even touched it, my tongue can taste ("smell?") the basil. MMMMMMBASIL.

I'll keep an eye out for that mascarpone pesto concoction. It sounds scrumptious!

I've had the same problem with sawdust bars. I think keeping them in the freezer (everything but today's stash) helps.

I'm pretty surprised. There's very little moisture and not a lot of sugar content; what the heck are the beasties eating?

Remember the ERT training at Silicon Spice? They had a catalog of home survival goodies including boxes of high-calorie food bars that were basically sawdust bars plus enough preservatives to embalm an elephant.

I just threw them out last year.

Because they'd gone stale? or did we need the space?

You're gonna need a bigger truck. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/quotes)

Yea, we have a bunch of those. We buy a new batch every 5 years or so as part of the survival kits.

I hate to tell ya, but those taste a LOT better than my homemade sawdust bars. I'm not kidding. :-) (I think it's the coconut oil.)
