This needs MASSIVE editing and is mostly from around 2009.

In Case of Emergency: My contact information is in a private post here, and the LJ administrators can retrieve it.

This bio is currently under development. Please pardon our dust while remodeling. Void where prohibited.

I take delight in kittens, good books, and challenging puzzles. I take delight in the company of friends, good wine, sweeping vistas and beautiful sunsets. I take delight in fondue with nutmeg, the crackling of a fire, and stirring choral music. I adore cheese in many forms. Back when I was flying acrobatics (and yes, I hope to again!), I took delight in four gees, the sharpness of a pivot at the top of a hammerhead, and how FAST the world goes 'round in an accelerated spin.
My sense of humor is very bathroom-oriented. My inner child is an eight-year-old boy. I'm usually not fond of "humor" that's schadenfreude in disguise; some days that doesn't leave much but booger and fart jokes.
I value self-knowledge, introspection, self-acceptance, comfort within one's own skin, and honesty with oneself. I value intelligence and competence. I value kindness. I struggle with what real kindness means.
I am most often found reading a novel, programming a computer, or calling a square dance.

Medical Information: I don't expect everyone to remember this stuff. :-)
- Some background information about my abdominal pain can be found here (girly TMI).
- The short version of my foot pain: Late in 2003 the underside of both my feet, where the third and fourth toes meet the foot, began to hurt badly enough that I stopped running and hiking. After many misdiagnoses, I had four Morton's neuromas, two in each foot, "killed" by a series of sclerosing injections (alcohol in solution) in late 2004. This left the area badly inflamed, and months afterward a persistent ache had not gone away. In July 2005 an MRI showed only one neuroma in each foot, plus damage to the flexor digitorum tendons and the plantar plate; in August 2005 as a last resort I had the neuromas surgically removed. This did not work. In January 2007 I was diagnosed with something something neuritis, for which there is not only no known cure but also no known palliative. I badly want to run, hike, backpack, and square dance again. There is not much hope.

Friends and Reading: I don't have time to read all my friends' journals all the time. Sorry! How much I read varies according to my workload. If you want me to see something, feel free to point me at it. I won't be offended at all.
- If I notice you friended me, I'll probably friend you back and try to keep up for a while. It may take me a long time to notice you friended me, though. Feel free to introduce yourself.
- I will probably stop reading your posts if I get the impression you automatically dislike or look down on members of a group I happen to be in. (Women, to pick an obvious example. People who don't cook, or people without children, to pick two less obvious examples.) Life's too short for that.
- I reserve the right to ignore completely any posts with comments disabled. I like the capabilities of LJ as conversation space, not a pulpit; if I no get to talk, I no listen.
- I have toyed with the idea of creating posting filters, because I post a lot. If I do that I'll note it here and point new friends to where they can opt in.
