I figured if I can't do an easy simple healthy recipe, then forget all this low sodium low fat no white flour nonsense and I'm going to have FONDUUUUUUUE! My doctor won't have a chance to kill me; I'll kill me first! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahaha... ha... *hic*

..where was I? Oh yeah. Since I had to go to the grocery store anyway, I got eggs and flour too.

FONDUE.

and you will die happy. :)
Monday, February 18th, 2008 11:36 pm (UTC)
I sure will. Man that stuff is good.

The great thing about fondue is that there is no secret trick. Pick a wine you like, and that'll help. Add more nutmeg than you think makes sense, and that'll help. But seriously, there's just no going wrong with enough Emmenthaler and Gruyere.

Hey, ya gotta die of something! ;-)
Monday, February 18th, 2008 11:47 pm (UTC)
It might as well be something fun!
Monday, February 18th, 2008 11:51 pm (UTC)
when ian's mom was here i got her recipe for fondue. i've always liked fondue, but MAN is hers better than any i've had. i think it is because she's a real live *Actual* Swiss Mom. one day i'll get a fondue pot and make it. :D

enjoy!!!
Monday, February 18th, 2008 11:55 pm (UTC)
Yeah, mine comes from a Swiss guy too. I adore it. It's awesome.

Jackie-cat sat around on the kitchen floor while it was heating, so I let a little trail of it drop to the linoleum. When she got close she must have smelled the wine, or the garlic, or something. She was so disappointed! She kept looking for the source of the cheese and was repeatedly stymied by the small blob of Confusing. Poor cat!
Monday, February 18th, 2008 11:57 pm (UTC)
Poor kitty. I do something like that to Tremelo periodically--when I use hand lotion. She comes up to me for scritches, smells the lotion and gives me a dirty look, goes and sulks for 5 min, repeat.....
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 12:04 am (UTC)
*snicker* Yeah, absolutely none of mine like the smell of Sarna (anti-itch goo). They back away as if they'd just been swatted on the nose.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 02:01 am (UTC)
Maxling used to do that with soy milk. It was going in my tea so *clearly* it was milk.. but it wasn't! he was unimpressed.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 12:43 am (UTC)
*I* have a fondue pot. Just sayin'.
La la la la...
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:29 am (UTC)
Me too. Fondue party at [livejournal.com profile] eeyore_grrl's place! WOOHO...

...er, I mean, La la la la... :-)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 02:01 am (UTC)
we have two chairs, of differing height... but i'm happy to bring the recipe elsewhere! :)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 03:14 pm (UTC)
I have two fondue pots. You know, if you wanted to practice.

(Two fondue pots and no ulterior motives at all... nope, nuh-uh.)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 12:22 am (UTC)
*Giggle*
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:34 am (UTC)
Boy do I like fondue. I like it way more than is healthy. :-) :-)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 12:27 am (UTC)
we just had a yummy dinner - leg of lamb, some ginger carrots w/little almonds and lemon peel from Trader Joe's, and fresh asparagus. Doesn't get much better for that. On tap for later, a pomegrante martini, complete with martini glasses! woo hoo! My class ended today, have just one more before being DONE with this program. Yahoo!
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:30 am (UTC)
Oh my, that sounds scrumptious!

Just one more class? So you'll be done by summer? Go you!
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 12:42 am (UTC)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahaha... ha... *hic*

Um, CJ, hon? The wine goes in the *fondue*.

FONDUE!!!!!!! (Said the woman who has been doing low-fat, high fiber, *lean* protein for about four weeks now. Cheese? Did someone say cheeeeeeeeeese!!!! Ahem.)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:31 am (UTC)
Oh, that can't be the way it goes! What a waste of good wine! *hic*

I adore cheese. I have to tone it down, I know, and not go crazy with fondue all the time, but I hope I never have to live completely without fondue either.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:03 am (UTC)
I'm a believer in everything in moderation. As long as you're not fonduing on a regular basis, it shouldn't kill you. Well, unless you set your house ablaze while doing it.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:33 am (UTC)
That's my best hope at this point. Today's menu has been: one bowl of oatmeal (with cinnamon), one cheese stick, and nearly 3/4 pounds of cheese fondue with half a baguette. I better not eat anything fatty for about three days.

[edited to remove sentence that would probably make half my friendslist go postal. sorry 'bout that.]
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:06 am (UTC)
my mom cleaned out her garage this weekend and found in one of the boxes the fondue set they got as a wedding present back in 1964. i'm like "that is so mine..."
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 01:33 am (UTC)
Oh perfect! Was she looking to let go of it right away?
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 04:42 pm (UTC)
nope. i'm going to have to fight her for it. :)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 04:03 am (UTC)
Darn. I think we got rid of all our fondue pots years ago. When we used to do fondue 'parties' I think we had about eight pots going - two oil, one stock, three cheese and two chocolate.

One thing I've been doing lately (since it is cheap, easy and somewhat filling) is to take some Winco Cannonball bread loaves, cut them into about 3/4" slices, drizzle with some olive oil, put them on one of my Pampered Chef pieces (bar pan, cookie stone or pizza stone), toast them in a 400° ovenfor about seven minutes, turn them over, drizzle with some more olive oil, place a slice of cheese on it, pop it back into the oven for about seven minutes or until the cheese has melted somewhat.

Yummy.

If you want, I'll post my recipe for Maple Glazed Grilled Salmon.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 04:19 am (UTC)
If you want to try to grab invite [livejournal.com profile] hitchhiker for dinner while he's here, maybe fondue would be a good option. :)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 08:02 am (UTC)
I wish you could come up! (Or make private fondue down there? ;) )
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 08:04 am (UTC)
Totally. *sigh*
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 04:26 pm (UTC)
Is there a time you could come up north?
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 08:13 am (UTC)
Doubtful -- lack of job means lack of $$ and need to devote much time to jobhunting.
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 06:21 pm (UTC)
Well, dang. *sigh*
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 08:13 am (UTC)
yay for fondue (:
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 05:48 pm (UTC)
Many cheers for FONDUE!

Plus, it has calcium. And you need calcium. You don't want to get osteoporosis, you know.
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 05:52 pm (UTC)
Good point! As a smallish pale woman, I'm at higher risk for that. I must eat cheese! It's required!
