I finally tried the plastic bag thing in the shower. Two bags on each foot, each layer taped to my calf.

A little-known fact of physics: slippery footing gets worse by a factor of at least three when you have your eyes closed and soap all over your face.

But I'm clean! I'm clean! Ahhhhhhh! I could rinse my hair with BOTH hands. I could get my legs wet. I could wash my backside. I could stand in the spray and rinse myself in seconds. Every detail was a new joy -- I was having multiple mental orgasms over how wonderful it was to be clean.

I can't wait to be able to wash my feet. I might just pass out with bliss.

Did you have your special shoes on inside the bags?

The footing situation sounds scary! Do you have any sort of treads on the shower floor or shower mat to help you out?

Congrats on surviving the shower, and on finally getting a nice thorough cleaning. I know how nice that can feel!

*clean-hugs*

Yep, 'cause I'm not allowed to stand up without the shoes. No treads, but I was careful.

Two days to next appointment. If I'm *very* lucky I'll pass muster this time instead of having to wait another week to get out of these shoes. I'd have to be WAY lucky to have healed up THAT fast. I'm silly to hope, but I hope anyways.

Did you fall from the slipperiness?

Yay for being able to get clean!! :-)
Monday, August 15th, 2005 10:44 pm (UTC)
Nope, I was careful. YAY CLEAN! 8-)
Monday, August 15th, 2005 10:54 pm (UTC)
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

E-mail on its way to you.

yay for a clean cj! it's amazing how much we forget is wonderful about little things like SHOWERS!
Monday, August 15th, 2005 11:15 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, I'm all about the little stuff! A shower and a meal -- no matter what my trouble is I'm a much happier camper after those.

Hey to being clean again!

I'm... sure you wouldn't have had a lack of volunteers to help wash your backside though... just sayin'. *cough*

*snicker* But I did need to get to work.

That's true. Luckily [livejournal.com profile] usqueba is able to shower and get her wounds wet, but not soaked... (Hysterectomy on Tuesday...) I am a "I like to shower every morning or I don't feel ready to face the day".. and I'll admit I like having a clean backside and other parts. :)

Keep getting better though! You'll be able to run again or something eventually, right? :)

Ooo, good luck to [livejournal.com profile] usqueba. I hope she recovers swiftly! When I had abdominal surgery I too was able to get the incision (well, the dressings) wet. This "keeping it dry" concept is a new one on me.

No one knows yet whether I'll be able to run again. This surgery fixed problem number one out of three. The other two have no easy solution. Once I'm recovered a bit we get to see how much of my pain was this and how much was the other two.

yay for showers!! showers cure a lot of ails. and it sounds like you're recovering well. hooray!!
Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 06:25 am (UTC)
Showers are wonderful things. :) My recovery has slowed -- I was stunned at how quickly it was progressing in the first few days, and now it's a lot more boring -- but it's still clearly happening, which is a relief!

I can almost FEEL the joy of the water and a decent shower, just from your description! How wonderful!

I have a shower stool, if you think that would be useful/help? We only use it when grampa is visiting.

It was sooooooooo wonderful!

I do have a (cheap plastic) stool. I had been using it to elevate my feet when sticking them out the shower door. This morning I had hoped I could stand up long enough... guess I should use the stool, huh? :-)

Yay! Every time I've been unable to take a shower for awhile (surgery, whatever), when I'm finally able to take one again I always think that a shower is the most underrated pleasure in the world and I'll never take them for granted again ... but of course I do. Sponge baths probably keep one sanitary enough, but I don't feel clean with sponge baths.

I don't even feel clean with a real bath. I haven't taken a bath in many years -- I can't get up once I'm lying in the tub, so I don't dare get into a regular-size bathtub. But when I did take baths, I didn't feel clean after soaking in water filled with the stuff that soaked off ... the dead skin cells and other icky old debris. So after a pleasant soak I'd let the water out and take a quick shower! (Besides, I've never been able to wash my hair in a bath ... I have to have a shower for that, so if I'm going to run the shower I might as well wash in it, too. :-) )

I feel the same way about showers after backpacking trips. It's soooooo nice to be clean. Just like you, I then start to take them for granted again after a while! :-)

I haven't had a bath since childhood, I think, unless you count the sort of "part way clean" feeling that comes after soaking in a hot tub or swimming in a stream.

I think all of my livejournal friends should post every time they take a shower. It would make LJ so much more familiar, you know? :)

Seriously, congrats!

Don't encourage me. Next thing you know I'll be explaining how many bites it took to eat dinner and in what order I floss my teeth. Because EVERYONE wants to KNOW!
Thursday, August 18th, 2005 06:57 pm (UTC)
Well now you have me curious. When you're eating dinner, do you eat one thing at a time or do you jump from food to food? :)

But I don't think even I want to know how you floss your teeth. Some things should just remain personal. ;)
Thursday, August 18th, 2005 09:03 pm (UTC)
Depends on how good one item is! How about you?

And yeah, some things should. Although I'm glad I'm lowering the bar for other people's LJ posts. I'm proud to do my part!
Thursday, August 18th, 2005 09:12 pm (UTC)
I tend to jump around every few bites. I figure what's the point of eating more than one thing if you're determined to eat everything one at a time? But I know people who do, eat all the potatoes and then all the peas and then all the chicken (or whatever). That's just weird. ;)

Hehe! What makes you think that post had anything to do with you?? Getting a little egotistical there, CJ. ;)

Let's see: I've recently had surgery, posted about taking a shower, am on the road to recovery... if the foo shits. Oh wait! Maybe I'm not on your friends list. ;-) ;-)

If the foo shits... that's a post right there. ;)
