You know you're too busy when you can't find a time for your fortieth birthday party.

I've been wanting to do SOMETHING memorable for this nice base-ten round number ever since a friend of mine had a great fortieth. But the scheduling! When I look at the calendar there's one weekend day free within A MONTH of it -- that is, if I insist on having Rob around, which I suppose is maybe too picky.

If you'd have asked me ten years ago, I really would have thought my life would be calm and maybe a little boring by now. Hahahahahahaha. :-)

Make it happen! You deserve a party!

Drat... would've been way fun to help plan a party like that for you -- and you definitely deserve such fun!!

Right now I'm going to cheat and have it before the actual birth date. I know, illegal! illegal!, but it's convenient.

Probably not the same kind of party Joe had though. :-)

Oh, I'll make SOMEthing happen! But I was really surprised to see how full the schedule was.

I don't think Joe's was quite on his birthday either. I was bummed that my 40th passed with not a shred of fun -- I hope you don't make that mistake. One doesn't need quite that sort of party to still have a grand time! Many fun things you can dream up!

That would be a bummer, yeah. Maybe it's not too late! Throw a party on some random unbirthday date?
Saturday, July 14th, 2007 12:33 am (UTC)
Naaah, the moment has passed. Though maybe I'll attempt to put a li'l more thought into doing something a bit more festive this winter for my next birthday. I haven't actually done anything particularly fun for my birthday for quite a while, which is kida sucky.

D'you have ideas yet for what you want to do for yours?

I didn't do much for mine, but my mom hunted down my office address and sent shiny balloons and some very chocolatey brownie-cakes, so the people around me didn't miss out just because I wasn't bothering :-)

My 40th was my only decade birthday that was really special! I'm having one this year too, but I don't think there will be much happening. Make sure you enjoy your 40th, you only have it once! :-)

Maybe you should go ahead and schedule 0x40 now too :)

It sucked having my 40th bday two months after 9/11/01...no one wanted to celebrate, including me.

If I want to schedule a party for my 50th I'd better get cracking.

I hope you can find the time. You deserve it.

Oddly enough, I was describing the aforementioned birthday party to Kent. His reply: "Oh, good...that gives me 6 years to plan."

I promise to invite you.

If you miss the 40th, you could always celebrate your 42nd.

Only a couple. A wine tasting event, perhaps at a winery, perhaps with cheese pairings? But then I can't afford to invite many people. Skydive, if I can do a tandem jump with my feet the way they are, just to affirm my commitment to do wacky adventurous things? But that's kind of a "me only" activity. The only other thing I came up with is a Compliments Party -- compliment anybody or anything present or not -- but as much as I believe life would be better if people did that as often as we criticize, that might be a little too fluffy-bunny-rainbow even for me.

Aw! Moms are cool that way. :-)
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:49 pm (UTC)
How nifty! What did you do for your 40th?
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:50 pm (UTC)
Oh ugh. That would truly suck indeed. Do you have any ideas for your 50th?
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:50 pm (UTC)
Complete with Beatles song? :)
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:51 pm (UTC)
That should be a good one for all Hitchhiker's fans!
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:52 pm (UTC)
I want to have a crafting retreat at a comfy retreat center somewhere in the Bay Area.
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:52 pm (UTC)
*chuckle* It's not the kind of party I'm likely to throw (or have thrown for me) but it sure was a memorable thing for the guest of honor!
Monday, July 16th, 2007 11:54 pm (UTC)
Ooooo, neat. "Calm and restful and creative" is what came to my mind when I read that.
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 12:28 am (UTC)
I'm sure it was! He seems to have the most...interesting birthday parties.

I have a feeling my 40th will be a little more low-key, too. Unless, of course, the revenge factor comes in since I've got a 40th to plan for Derk (2 years) and a 50th for Kent (in three). *evil chuckle*

Sometimes a bit of fluffy-bunny-rainbow action can be just the thing. :)

I'm musing about maybe a Lego & Geomag "play party". Hang out and make cool constructions. I've got a serious collection of both, so why not take advantage? And a living room that's becoming more functional (almost) by the minute. Whee!
