My foot surgery photo gallery has new pictures in it. To see the new ones without seeing images that might bother some folk, start here (the first new picture), do "next" until you see the shower picture, then stop.

Wow, that's pretty impressive!

I've been pretty surprised at the paths of some bruises. It's like the blood just goes wandering around under the skin. Oh gee, I've never been to the toes before. C'mon lymphocites, let's check 'em out! I accidentally punctured a vein in my ankle when I was a teenager. The wound itself was only one small spot, but the bruise leaked down about 2 inches.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery! You've got dancin' left to do. 8)

Yeah, mostly bruises seem to fall but these have just randomly wandered across! :-)

Thanks!

Cool Pics! Love the shoes! They are Fabulous!

Although I am sure there are some people disappointed to see the towel present in the shower pic. Amazing what we go through just to get clean. When I had the broken leg I sat on a step stool placed in the shower.

Hrmmm. If Rob or someone is willing to go shopping, Ikea sells these plastic stools for a kids table for like 7 bucks and takes 30 seconds to assemble. And they aren't too uncomfy to sit on (its what I use when I sit at Ike's table). Would think it would be easier than sitting on the floor.

Just in case here's a link to the pic:

Thank you! I like 'em too, although I admit it'll probably get old wearing waves and little fishies to work for multiple weeks.

The step stool my feet are on in the pic will be my shower stool as soon as I don't feel like I have to ELEVATE my feet. I'll double-bag them to keep them dry (doctor's orders) and sit on that stool. First couple days, though, I reeeeeeally had to keep those feet up high, and now it's sort of habit. Tomorrow -- tomorrow I'll try sitting up in the shower. (Can't stand without the shoes, doctor's orders, sigh.)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:18 pm (UTC)
Ahhhh. Okay. Glad you have something to sit on! That just did not look comfy.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:48 pm (UTC)
You're right, it is SO not comfy. And this may be TMI but there are spots it's hard to wash when you're sitting on the floor and cannot possibly get up. I want to be CLEAN!!
Friday, August 12th, 2005 04:44 am (UTC)
*snicker* that makes soooo much sense.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 06:11 am (UTC)
[9-year-old moment] So why are the bruises on toes that weren't even touched? That's sooooo weeeeeird.

Thank you for explaining that was betadine. My first thought was, "wow, CJ developed really bad nail fungus when I wasn't looking ... "

Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:15 pm (UTC)
Yeah, mostly bruises will fall downwards as things heal but these seem to have just gone walkabout! :-)

Hahah, nail fungus hadn't occurred to me. The color of the pictures isn't quite what the eye sees, anyhow...
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 06:15 am (UTC)
Actually, your feet look pretty good considering the trauma of surgery. Looks like normal healing to me (mind, I'm not a doctor and it'll be a couple years before I'm nurse. I've just dealt with a LOT of injuries and post surgery effects).

Enjoy the chocolate and cheese in happy-making doses and keep being patient with yourself and healing.

I so want to read accounts of you dancing.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:16 pm (UTC)
Ayep, they look just fine to me too, although I like to put the warning for folks who don't want to see that sort of thing.

Thank you! Patience is the hard part -- I want these danged shoes OFF. :)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 09:08 am (UTC)
in some odd way the pictures are fascinating. heal well
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:16 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I'm doing my best. :)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 11:49 am (UTC)
I'm glad you mentioned that most of the red was iodine solution. And I love the shoes, especially how the soles are underwater :-)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:18 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I figured that needed explaining -- even in person I couldn't tell it wasn't dried blood until the bandages just didn't *stick together* like they should. Then the doc poured more iodine all over it when rebandaging, and all was clear!

Thank you! I want to put something different on the other sides of the shoes, but I'm not sure what. It's a slight bummer that there's no "left" or "right" shoe; both of 'em have the flat and easy-to-decorate side on the left, and both have Velcro and straps and all on the right.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 01:19 pm (UTC)
Extremely cool!

I was wondering how the showering was going to work! This will give you abs of steel for sure!
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:19 pm (UTC)
Hah, I don't think anything can EVER give me abs of steel. I am a hopeless case! :-)

Now that I am not so desperate to keep my feet raised up high, I can probably sit on a stool with plastic bags wrapped around my feet. I'll try that tomorrow morning.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 01:24 pm (UTC)
Best wishes as you recover, CJ!
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:50 pm (UTC)
Thanks! :) Patience is the hard part. Oooooo, I just do not do patience very well. Fortunately, there's probably not much I can do to mess myself up (unless I have a very high pain threshhold) so I have little choice but to wait it out. :)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 01:28 pm (UTC)
The shoes. Oh, the shoes. *cracking up* Those are *awesome*! I love the little fishies on the heel. :-)

You're doing so well, CJ. I hope your recovery continues to go swimmingly (heh heh) and that you'll be truly up & about soon.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I was all bummed when the waves on one shoe looked more like horse-heads, and then when I did the fishies and the kelp and such I got all cheerful about it again.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 01:32 pm (UTC)
The crown especially and the shoes are fabulous. :-) Aren't bruises weird? I remember having them no where near my incisions nor where I'd have thought they'd show up under the skin based on what was done. And the shower pic is just about what I'd imagined you'd have to have been doing (except without the towel) (oops, was that my outside voice? ;-)).
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 04:52 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, bruises are weird. They usually fall -- bruises on the leg migrating downward as they slowly fade -- but these went across! A little bit of tourism! Bruises on vacation!

Well, yes, I usually do shower without the towel wrapped around. ;-)
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 06:23 pm (UTC)
Awesome crown!

And...what did you use to decorate your (adorable!) booties? Was it fabric pens?
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 06:52 pm (UTC)
Fabric paints! :-) I know *zilch* about how that stuff is supposed to work, and which kind of paint would stick to these nylon-plastic shoes, but fortunately I'll never have to throw the shoes in the wash. So I just went to Michael's and bought a few bottles that looked like good colors.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 10:56 pm (UTC)
Wow that's gross! But I looked at the next picture and the next. Ewwwwwie! It's amazing that when they have the incision open it just doesn't quite look like a foot anymore. Weird, but neat.

Thursday, August 11th, 2005 11:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it sure doesn't quite look right, does it? [livejournal.com profile] mactavish reminded me of Klein bottles, and I started to think if I had Klein feet this whole process would have been easier. :-)
Friday, August 12th, 2005 02:27 am (UTC)
But it is fascinating. I guess if we didn't have skin our feet ould be more like hands. I'm just used to seeing toes all close not splayed like that.

Seriously gross, but cool.
Friday, August 12th, 2005 02:42 am (UTC)
So am I. My toes *can* spread pretty wide at the best of times -- (not by themselves like fingers can do, though. Just if I spread them by hand or by pushing against the floor) -- but that's not normal even for me! There even the metatarsals were splayed apart.
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 11:13 pm (UTC)
Yay! Thanx for posting the pix! Fascinating stuff -- the bruises, the general state, etc. And I love to get to hear (and see) lots of details about what you're going through. Oh, and the further shoe decorations are lovely!

*hug-of-further-healing*
Thursday, August 11th, 2005 11:50 pm (UTC)
Thank you! :) Glad you are liking the details. I am awash in a sea of details. :)
Monday, August 15th, 2005 08:06 pm (UTC)
Wow, that looks like a really uncomfortable way to shower. But, compared to not showering, it may be worth it. :) In any event, I'm very happy that you found a way to do it and managed it, even if you never want to do it again. Options are always good. :)

And having said all of that, I will stop typing now, because I just saw a picture of you in the shower. And I can't imagine going another two minutes without saying something that will be out of line. It's just who I am. :)
Monday, August 15th, 2005 10:16 pm (UTC)
Very worth it, at least if I have to interact with civilized human beings such as coworkers.

It's just who I am.

*grin*
Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 04:34 am (UTC)
Oh, that's right, you're back at work. I guess showers are pretty much a necessity now. :)
Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
Yeah, there is that. :-)
