Years ago, when I'd get scrapes and scratches they'd heal beautifully, leaving no sign that there was ever an injury.

Now I scar like crazy, collecting little white or pink lines for even small scratches.

I think I'm getting older.

I'm seeing the same thing. It's taking forever for little wounds to heal. I might have to stop being a klutz in service of my vanity. This begs the question, after 40 years of being a klutz, can one actually recover? Also, I still have a cat. And I will still be stupid enough to test reaction times with him during play. And I will always lose. I need gloves.

I'm not hugely klutzy by nature, I suspect, it's just that I've never before really cared whether I got scrapes or bruises. So I wasn't particularly cautious. I may still decide not to care... not sure yet. After all, anyone who would find me less attractive because of (tomboyishness / how old I am) is hopefully not someone I will ever have the bad taste to want to impress. :-)

I too have a cat. I think I know EXACTLY what you mean. :-)

Want to collect a couple more? Just try to put me in that room again (http://www.livejournal.com/users/jackiecat/11763.html) tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I've noticed that I heal much more slowly than I used to, too.

I'll never forget the first time Meredith got a bruise. She was four months old; I'd propped her in a chair at the haircutting place while I got out my checkbook, and she fell over sideways and bumped her forehead on the arm of the chair. I was devastated -- I'd allowed my baby to get hurt! But I was astounded at how fast it healed -- almost at a visible rate! By the time we got home it was looking better, and by the next morning it was totally gone!

It's incredible how quickly we heal when we're young! I have always taken fast healing more or less for granted, but I can tell that it's slowing down as the years go on.

Time to get all the surgeries I will ever want NOW rather than LATER. ;-)

Yes. When Meredith was 8, she had a hernia repair, and was fine in a few days. K had the very same surgery when he was in his early 30's, and I was surprised when they said he would need a couple of weeks to recuperate. The doctor chuckled and said adults take much longer to heal than children do.

On the other hand, no surgery is better than surgery when you're younger. If there's any possibility of treating the problems short of surgery, it's usually better to try those first. You're still young, you have plenty of time! (Ack! Did I really say that? =wail= I'm really getting old! =sob=)

Some people are just less lucky, too -- [livejournal.com profile] rfrench has always healed much more slowly than his doctors have expected.

On the other hand, no surgery is better than surgery when you're younger.

Of course. But anything I'm going to NEED, I would be better off to need NOW. ;-)

You're still young, you have plenty of time!

I'm still young enough to be impatient, too! Unless the goal is to get everything fixed perfectly the day before I fall into my grave. Then, yeah, hopefully I have loads of time.

Ack! Did I really say that?

We confuse wisdom with age. Those were wise words, but they don't hafta make you old. :-)
