Man, it's tough to eat six meals a day. I come home at night and Rob will ask me how many times I ate. If I count every separate snack as a meal, I can usually say four. I'll add one more around nine or ten in the evening, for a total of five ... and all the odd-numbered ones really are just snacks.

I'm working on today's number three right now. It's a pasta and veggie salad. I've eaten about half of a side-dish-sized serving and I'm just not motivated to eat the rest. It's not even that I'm not hungry. I am hungry. I am just incredibly tired of shoveling food in my mouth.

I guess the change takes some getting used to.

It's expensive to eat often, too, unless I'm careful. There's no discount for small portions at lunch, and snacks aren't cheap. I may have to cook again. Ack. Why don't I have kids by now? When my mom was my age, she had three elves to do chores. She can probably count the times she's cooked since then.

I think it's pretty ironic that I can try to double the number of times I eat in a day, and I bet I'm losing weight. I am so, tired, of, eating.

Do you have a fridge at work where you could stash leftovers until it's time to eat again? I know most restaurants 'round here have ridiculously huge servings at lunch ~ enough to feed two to three people! alternately, can you stash your desk with somewhat-healthy nonperishable snacks? i'm partial to nuts (peanuts, almonds or soynuts) or graham crackers at the moment. you will adjust. it just takes some time.

and you don't need kids to cook for you. what you need is a single friend who loves to cook but has no one to feed! and as luck would have it, i happen to know such a person! ;-)

Yes, I could do that -- I'll have to bring in some Tupperware, but that's ok. Of course, some of our "cafeteria" choices are really bad to reheat. But I can at least do the ones that will heat up well.

My desk is definitely stashed with stuff. Atkins bars, almonds, four remaining chocolates, and a bottle of olive oil to put on bread from time to time. What are soynuts like? Never tried 'em!

Why why why don't I live CLOSER to you? Arrrg! :-)

Oh, it IS hard! I'm trying to do that too (for weight loss and body building reasons). It is hard to change old, old habits. I was raised with the "3 solid meals, no snacks" mentality. Ack. Like CrazyLady says...it can be done, just takes time. And, yes, you probably are losing weight. Kooky, huh?

I was raised with 2 solid meals and snacks. :-) (We really weren't much of a breakfast family.)

And, yes, you probably are losing weight. Kooky, huh?

No kidding! Wonder if I can keep it off. I guess meals number one, three, and five will never be large -- restaurants aren't open then. So if I can resist stuffing myself during two and four then I may indeed keep some of the weight off! What a concept.

What are you doing for body building? Weight training sorts of things?

I guess a late reply is better than none.
As far as body building--right now I'm doing a very simple routine--one major "lift" per major body area. I belong to a gym and use free weights (as opposed to "machines"). I prefer them. Since I'm just starting (back again), it doesn't take much to see results. As I get more buff (Ha!), I'll have to get more specific about the exercises, sets, etc. Is this something you're interested in?

Which areas are you targeting? And how specific do you mean by major area -- is "arms" one area, or is it "upper arms" and "biceps", or...?

I like that effect - early rewards help keep a person going!

Yes, I am! I have never done any weight training before. Mostly, I exercise for specific activities -- if I want to backpack, I hike, then hike wearing a pack. That sort of thing. But now I'm thinking there are parts of me that I'd like to tone and maybe even sculpt a little. My upper arms, my belly, my butt. I just don't really know how to start.
