Insomnia may bite the big one, but I am actually hating the nausea more. This morning I've spent about an hour and a half concentrating hard on not losing breakfast. Some days I win that battle; some days I lose. Today I think I am going to win. (How long does a pregnant woman have morning sickness? String it together and I think I'm working on maybe child number three about now.) The evening battles aren't so bad if I can manage to knock myself out with sleeping pills before the worst of it hits. If I can't do that, well, some days I lose. At least when I lose, the battle is OVER and I can climb into bed.

TWO DAYS until I get to see my doctor and tell her that Quality Of Life is going to trump this whole treatment concept. My appointment is Thursday.

Can they give you an anti-emetic? Zofran works like a dream. It is expensive, but, again, works like a dream, and at least for me, has known of the nasty side effects that Compazine and Reglan have.

I am sorry about the nausea. That is very unfortunate and incredibly disruptive.

As for how pregnant women deal with it, well, I knew where all bathrooms were, regularly puked at work, kept something in my car to puke in, and eventually transitioned to a contractor who worked from home because I was just too sick to be in an office all day. I was sicker than most, though, and for longer (as in all 40 weeks). After week 14 I took Zofran regularly and it made life bearable and I at least could eat something.

I really hope this gets better for you. I can really see how this treatment is worse than the disease...I hope they can find something better for you.

Holy crap. That's incredible. I can't imagine how a woman who's not only keeping her own body alive but also providing complete life support for a growing baby can possibly make it if she loses practically every meal.

So Zofran was okay for you to take while pregnant -- it wouldn't harm the baby?

Yes! I was just going to say, I had a colleague who was sick for the whole pregnancy. Morning, noon and night. She was working in a biochemistry lab and kept a trashcan nearby. And she would puke, wash up a bit, and get back at it. It was ugly.

Her second pregnancy was just fine though. Not a sign of nausea. Bodies are weird.
