I think about a third of the people in my physics lecture are sick. We're packed in there like sardines, and throughout the class I hear continuous sniffle-cough-snort-honk.

Counterintuitive though it may seem, I bet my best short-term strategy would be to ditch the massive antibiotics so I could sleep. I wonder what my doctor would say if I told her I wanted to stop Lyme treatment in order to stay healthy!

Is it possible to have the lectures videotaped (or even just audiotaped, with a copy of the professor's slides, or to have someone take notes for you) for the duration of the flu season, and to use those instead of attending class? It seems to me like a reasonable accommodation for someone with immune-system issues, if you could learn that way.

Possibly, although learning is the least of my problems. (If they didn't take attendance at this thing, I'd just go take the final exam now and have it over with. This is a real sleeper of a class!)

By contrast, I don't think I could contract anything bacterial at this point. If it weren't for the frustrating sleep issues, I'd know my immune system could be 100% dedicated to any incoming virus, and I'd feel nearly invincible. But... not enough sleep, not since the end of June. And I haven't been sick in almost two years. (I'm like clockwork. MASSIVE flulike illness every two years, pretty much nothing else ever.) I'm nearly due.

I'm glad the class is turning out to be so easy for you! Given that, I really might, were I you, look into requesting an exemption from the attendance requirement, at least until fewer students are attending class with infectious illnesses...but if you're due anyway, maybe it's not worth fighting it.

The sleep issues sound really unpleasant to deal with. Any chance of improvement as you adapt further to the medication?
