Spent all day 9/11 on planes, not eating. Stuff available on planes and in airports is generally Lyme-diet-illegal.

Upon arrival, blithely assured everyone that "Sure I can eat at a Ruby Tuesday's; go just about anywhere and I'll find SOMEthing I can eat." Boy did I learn my lesson! I did eat, but I had something like two choices, of which I nixed one -- the salad bar -- because it was 6pm and I needed FAT AND PROTEIN THANKYOU.

Have now installed myself in Boston and promptly begun cooking. Spinach/tomato/onion frittata was shared with my mom this morning; a double batch of palak paneer just came off simmer; cream of asparagus soup is running in the crock; ingredients for Senate bean soup and another double batch of palak paneer are waiting for later. My feet are tired. I will probably go fetch ingredients for onion roast pretty soon, too. My mom's not a big meat eater, but my dad is, and my mom will be OK with scarfing down the scrumptious onion soup that forms at the base.

Happy me. :-)

you do use whole cloves in your onion roast, not cloves of garlic right?

I"m just curious... I tried it... but the whole cloves created a weird taste, and no one would eat the meat and I wouldn't touch the onions.

Oh wow. Yes, I use whole cloves, and personally I love the taste. Huh! What a bummer! Try it without, perhaps?

yeah... I might try it without next time. I like cloves too... but usually with a pork roast or ham... it was too overpowering in the beef dish though. Mostly matters that you like it :) I might try making it with garlic cloves in the meat.... and leave out the salt pork. the onions can stay too. :)

Yeah, tweak it however you like it! I'd be interested in what you find out! I'm sorry to hear the first try didn't come out well, though; that's not an inexpensive chunk of meat.

Some yummy food you are cooking up!

Do you think the treatment is helping?
Friday, September 12th, 2008 08:57 pm (UTC)
Personally, no I don't. My doctor says oh yes this is very hopeful this is the way Lyme is. I am beginning to suspect one of us failed statistics, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.

LOL - indeed :) You even have the grade to prove it.

I'm going to run some math on the numbers before my next appointment, and I'm going to ask some more pointed questions based on the results. It's difficult to draw clear conclusions, though, because I wasn't quantifying and logging my pain levels before treatment. The fact that for four days I had noticeably better pain levels -- four days out of, so far, about twenty weeks -- may indeed be something hopeful. I don't know the medicine. All I know is that those four days sure don't move the average a whole lot.

Did it feel weird to fly on 9/11?
Saturday, September 13th, 2008 12:45 am (UTC)
Only a bit. The pilot on one leg did a little tribute over the PA system -- overdone, but a nice sentiment.

Oh, I wanted to make absolutely sure it'd be okay if I brought G with me. Also, can I bring anything special?

Bring anyone you want as long as they're housebroken! Feel free to bring a favorite food or drink if you like, or not if you don't. I have various munchies and drinks, and since this goes across dinner, we'll probably do either Chinese takeout or pizza for whatever-number-of-people-is-here-at-that-point when the time comes.
