Lunch at work today is pizza, and my doctor did say that despite the sugar in the sauce, I can peel the top off a pizza slice and eat it. I think I've tried it exactly once before, maybe a month or so ago.
This time I can taste the sweetness in a pepperoni pizza top. It's not the overwhelming single flavor, but it's big and it's bold, rivaling the pepperoni flavor in strength.
In some weird twisted way, I feel like I've arrived. Or something. Probably for the first time since I was weaned, I can taste sugar in food.
(This does not make me an effective taste-tester for a diabetic person. Glycemic index can be dangerously high for starches, and I don't know that I can detect that at all. So much for my dreams of turning this into something useful!)

Plain old fruit tastes a lot sweeter to me since I started avoiding added sugars. So do carrots.
