Lunch at work today is pizza, and my doctor did say that despite the sugar in the sauce, I can peel the top off a pizza slice and eat it. I think I've tried it exactly once before, maybe a month or so ago.

This time I can taste the sweetness in a pepperoni pizza top. It's not the overwhelming single flavor, but it's big and it's bold, rivaling the pepperoni flavor in strength.

In some weird twisted way, I feel like I've arrived. Or something. Probably for the first time since I was weaned, I can taste sugar in food.

(This does not make me an effective taste-tester for a diabetic person. Glycemic index can be dangerously high for starches, and I don't know that I can detect that at all. So much for my dreams of turning this into something useful!)

I wonder if it would help to order it w/o sauce?
I need to order my pizza that way.
The first time or two it taste strange w/o the sauce but after that it's not to bad.

I really dislike sweetness in pizza sauce! In fact, I've always really disliked any sweetness in food that is not supposed to be dessert. My favorite pizzas are ones with tangy, tart sauces.

Plain old fruit tastes a lot sweeter to me since I started avoiding added sugars. So do carrots.

I've been doing a lot of shameless pizza-top swiping at gatherings lately... Glad that puts the flavor back on your plate!

I'm supposed to avoid fruit and carrots too, but I suspect they'd taste sweeter to me now if I ate them. Heck, I bet I could taste it in white bread. There's a reason those baguettes are called "sweet", even if there's not a speck of table sugar added.

Pizza-top swipers, unite! :-) It feels wasteful to me, so I'm a bit embarrassed to do it. A normal person can eat two slices of pizza and feel like he's had a meal. Two pizza TOPS doesn't even remotely do it. So I feel like I'm being a pig and throwing out food all at the same time. On the other hand, it lets me join in at all.

If I were the one ordering it, yeah, I could get it without sauce or with pesto as the sauce. Here at work, the person who orders them forgets every time that I shouldn't be eating the tomato sauce. (Heck, the most popular pizza ever at this company is plain cheese with pesto instead of tomato, but I think she's forgotten it exists or something.)
