In just about twenty years I've had three auto insurance claims. The third one is this morning.

Nobody's hurt, not even the pedestrian who marched out across the on-ramp, but my rear bumper is all folded in, and the guy behind me is going to need a new bumper and hood.

It's not a new car any more.

One person to whom I grumbled about obliviousness got all defensive and angry. He had a RIGHT to be oblivious, by golly, and my assertion that people should wake up and know what was going on around them was HARSHING HIS MELLOW.

Personally, I believe that that's beyond lazy and moving into unethical. Everyone else has to pick up the slack for people like that, from little ways like moving aside on a sidewalk to larger ways like going to get our cars repaired. But I don't have to respect that guy's opinion. I just have to not hit it with my car. :-)
