In just about twenty years I've had three auto insurance claims. The third one is this morning.

Nobody's hurt, not even the pedestrian who marched out across the on-ramp, but my rear bumper is all folded in, and the guy behind me is going to need a new bumper and hood.

It's not a new car any more.

You mean that to some people "oblivious" isn't clearly dangerous? I mean, it's one thing to be sympathetic (I generally am), but even if they're not meaning to be dangerous, they can be extremely dangerous to themselves and others.

So, you're saying some people are oblivious to the dangers of oblivious people?!

One person to whom I grumbled about obliviousness got all defensive and angry. He had a RIGHT to be oblivious, by golly, and my assertion that people should wake up and know what was going on around them was HARSHING HIS MELLOW.

Personally, I believe that that's beyond lazy and moving into unethical. Everyone else has to pick up the slack for people like that, from little ways like moving aside on a sidewalk to larger ways like going to get our cars repaired. But I don't have to respect that guy's opinion. I just have to not hit it with my car. :-)
