My TiVo solves that for me. It pulls out only the bits I like, and has them waiting for me at 3am when I can't sleep. TiVo helps me skip commercials and "learns" my preferences -- it just read my mind today, deciding on its own to record a repeat of yesterday's Nightline that had an interview with Obama on it, which I didn't find out about 'til too late to choose to record myself. I have "wish lists" for topics like "atheis*", which allows my TiVo to keep an eye out for stuff I'd never have suspected existed, and grabs me a copy. My TiVo snarfs all sorts of cool education programs for me -- thanks to it I've made a recent (successful!) project of starting to fill in the vast gaps in my knowledge of biology & genetics. "My TiVo gets me" is their latest slogan -- and for one of the few times in my life, I agree 100% with a slogan! TV with TiVo is just nothing like TV without it -- in the best possible way.

So, I can't relate to that cartoon, luckily! :)

If TiVo were a person (and sometimes I feel like it is!), we're BFF!

(No I don't actually work for them.)
