I don't yet know when I'm going, but Dr. Jain of the Centers for Pain Management called me back and says he wants to see me.

A number of things (in my history) "are confusing," he says. "Come and let me look at you." He says the first question is an accurate diagnosis, and if that is okay, treatment should be "easy." I told him I was a bit concerned that I'd had several different diagnoses from different people so far.

He's unwilling to speculate on anything until he gets a look at me in person. I don't blame him, disappointed as I am at having no feedback yet. He did say he'd pursue "pharmaceuticals" heavily. Good for him if he can find any applicable stuff I haven't already had. :-)

I should come Tuesday or Wednesday and stay through Friday, planning to fly back on the weekend. Then I will likely be asked to come back in one or two months, depending. LaGuardia is closest/easiest.

Wheeeeeee... maybe.

oh wow! I am so so so incredibly excited at the idea that you might be able to be in less pain or walk more. That would be...yeah, a Beyond Very Good thing.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:15 pm (UTC)
I think I've finally reached the point where I don't bother getting excited any more, but believe you me, if it HAPPENS, I'll be throwing one MONSTER big party!
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:12 pm (UTC)
Yay! I really, really hope he can figure out what's going on and what to do about it.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:15 pm (UTC)
Me too! Heck, if I just had a diagnosis I could trust, that would be amazing.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:23 pm (UTC)
I've got my fingers crossed. And it's not easy to type that way, believe me!
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:24 pm (UTC)
Thank you for this sacrifice on my behalf! :)

It would be so awesome if I could, oh, square dance again. Just to pick one thing.

I think I just strained my good-luck-ray projector.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
*laughter* Thank you! That's a fun image.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:34 pm (UTC)
I'm very hopeful for you. It sounds like maybe he's understanding of your long history and frustration, at least the way you've portrayed his comments here. *crosses fingers*
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:44 pm (UTC)
I hope so. At the very least, he doesn't want to proceed randomly. If he sees that my case looks confusing, he might think that's exactly what has happened in the past.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:41 pm (UTC)
checked out the doc's website - it looks like he's worth the shot. do you have someone who can take the time to go with you to help you with the emotional end of this?

how soon can you get in? you don't mean *this* Tuesday, do you?
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
Oh heck no; I need to buy plane tickets, which delays things considerably.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:45 pm (UTC)
This is great news. Woohoo!

Let me know if you need crash space or anything.
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:48 pm (UTC)
Wow, thank you! I need to get myself oriented; I have no idea where things are or how to get around.

Wishing you well...

Thanks!
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 11:53 pm (UTC)
This is awesome.
I'm really happy for you, because if I was you I'd be the most crabby and difficult motherfucker on the planet.
I'll be thinking the good thoughts.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:00 am (UTC)
I'll let [livejournal.com profile] rfrench reply about whether I already AM the most crabby and difficult mofo on the planet. I bet if he thought I couldn't hear him, he'd say yes.

Thanks!

Whatever happens, I'm glad he's really paying attention and thinking about it. GOOD LUCK.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:12 am (UTC)
Thank you. That's the good bit: a doctor who is thinking about it.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:16 am (UTC)
Totally get the whole reserving judgement thing. But I'll think warm and happy thoughts for you.

(It'd be so cool to run a marathon with you... No, not even thinking about things like that.)

I'll light a candle for you!

Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:51 am (UTC)
THAT WOULD BE SO COOL! ...no, not thinking about it either.

Thanks.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:18 am (UTC)
Wow! I hope this leads to something good.

Um, I'm sure you're a seasoned traveler and don't need me telling you this but, Laguardia means a connection from the west coast. Kennedy and Newark have many non-stop options from SFO.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:19 am (UTC)
Oh, and, it's debatable which is more convenient to the Upper East Side of Manhattan -- some people really like Newark.

Keeping all appropriate body parts crossed.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:20 am (UTC)
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!! I hope he has good news.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:45 am (UTC)
Yeah!

Maybe we can meet up also.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:52 am (UTC)
That would be awesome. I honestly have no idea what I'll be doing most of the time I'm there. Probably twiddling my thumbs. If we can meet up for lunch I'd be all for it.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 12:52 am (UTC)
I hope your results are as good as the ones [livejournal.com profile] obsessivewoman got when she went in to see the neuroendicrinoncologist, who was able to help her migraines by prescribing large doses of an osteoporosis drug. Nothing like getting help from the extreme experts.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 01:01 am (UTC)
Well, waddya got to lose but a plane ticket and some time? It seems so worth it to continue to explore this mystery. Fingers crossed and good thoughts being sent your way.

The most promising thing about all of that is that he hasn't yet done any of the usual stupid doctor things (by my count, at least). I hope the trend continues!
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 01:05 am (UTC)
Wow. Luck, luck, luck.

It's good that he does tons of research in addition to consultation, and good that pain management is his specialty.

Going this weekend?
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 02:02 am (UTC)
Nah, as soon as I can get decent-price plane tickets, which'll be a little while.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 01:40 am (UTC)
This is so cool, in all kinds of ways.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 02:02 am (UTC)
Fingers crossed so hard it hurts (metaphorically).
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 02:33 am (UTC)
That's great news! Fingers crossed.
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 03:03 am (UTC)
I hope this works for you. good thoughts coming your way.

Thursday, January 17th, 2008 03:20 am (UTC)
Squee! Keeping my fingers crossed!
Thursday, January 17th, 2008 05:12 am (UTC)
I'll just say it is great that you have a new avenue to explore, and some stuff that is worth the effort to look into.

How to get around: subway + cabs. There is also something called
"car service" which is only a little cheaper than cabs.....
