These things have a scary amount of personality. Even the marketing documentation refers to them by "name". The printer warms up, but Scooba is drying its cleaning head.

I think the first thing I need to teach them to do is sing Christmas carols. None of that spinning and twisting, though -- it's too loud and overpowers the song. Next might be the Bluetooth cell phone control system. Then it can go fetch things.

Oh wait. Who am I kidding? I'm busy.

My favorite scooba moment was when it first did its end-zone victory dance.

This I gotta see!

well, you know... when it's finished, it plays a little "I'm finished" song and then moves back and forth while looking for its base

Aw! I'll have to watch. It arrived last night; I have yet to see it in action. :-)

We haven't picked up a base for the Scooba yet...

My 560 is on the way.

It is sleek and futuristic-looking! I think we have a 560. I'd have to look, but the picture looks similar.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.</Hal> ;-)

Someday I'll have one.

I had always sort of thought I never would. Given our cats' digestive difficulties I don't want it to run without supervision, and if it's running with supervision it might not be saving a whole lot of time. (I guess it will help my feet though. Vacuuming and floor-scrubbing are both, for different reasons, torture on my feet.)

My lower back has hated me for years after vacuuming, sweeping or mopping which is one reason the Roomba appealed to me when I first heard about it. I am not the housekeeper my mother was, but I do prefer that the house be clean. A Roomba would help in that endeavor.

Ouch. Sweeping I can do - with a broom, if it's not heavy stuff like sweeping up gravel or something. But vacuuming, YIKES.

I know what you mean about preferring the place to be clean. I too am not Miss Good Housekeeping 2007 but I don't want to live in muck.

I don't think they have to be supervised all the time. You just have to look around for cat presents, and then tell them "go". They can run unsupervised. They don't take all that long to run, so the odds of new cat presents showing up during the run is pretty small.

The odds are especially low if the Roomba can eat all the cats' food!

i kinda want a roomba, if only to provide me with hours of entertainment (http://tomatonation.com/?p=844). something tells me that Giles will have that thing dismanteled and/or reprogrammed in no-time flat. Sam, on the other hand, will probably end up in the Kitty Psych Ward just for bringing it into the house.

That link is absolutely hilarious, and is one of the handful of things that can make me very said I have three geriatric cats. (Rob reports that Jackie simply climbed onto a stair and watched the whole evening from there, and Duchess practically let it climb on her before she decided she'd best saunter off in another direction.)

This could be a great training aid. Cats are safe if they are inside the litterbox.

i wonder how long before they teach it to hunt with them? or will they hunt for it and bring it offerings?? i guess them being low-key about it is better than them freaking out and coming unglued.

Here's my prediction:

Jackie will take over.
Duchess will destroy it by sitting on it.
And Little Girl will be oblivious, since she will have been lying on some part of my anatomy the whole time.
