I'm eating some green beans with cheddar-ish sauce. The sauce is a little on the thin and watery side, but I'm scarfing this stuff down and thinking OH SO YUMMY. The other day, I almost posted how I made spinach curry because when I ate it it was OH SO YUMMY. (Okay, I did post, but I left it private.)

That OH SO YUMMY reaction has happened a lot over the past few days. And y'know what? All these times I've been eating and thinking OH SO YUMMY I've also been ravenous. I'm not at all sure what I'd think of these green beans if I'd just made a pig of myself over fondue.

Tell ya what. The next time I tell you something I have eaten only once is absolutely scrumptious, ask me how much I've got in the tummy, okay? 'Cause I think maybe I'm not a particularly good judge when I'm running on empty.

*nodnod* If I want bread and don't want those steamed veggies, yeah, it's probably not "real" hunger.

About a week and a half ago I mentally slapped myself and said THAT'S ENOUGH on the white bread, rice, pasta, and sweets. Naturally I want nothing so much as I want bread and rice right now. I have got to learn to eat those things in moderation!

I also have to guard against getting TOO hungry. Without a recent mental slap, TOO hungry means "get a bag of microwave popcorn because it will hit the bloodstream in [microwave-duration] plus a minute". Ugh. Bad for self! Bad for self!

Yeah, I've done the refined carb overload thing lately.

Now that I'm hitting the gym more seriously again, this tends to correct itself naturally, because I'm loading up more on protein, which makes me less hungry for "comfort food".

Do you find a higher protein diet tends to regulate your blood sugar better? It does mine!

It sure does! That's one reason I want to calm down on the refined carbs. I've always been prone to wildly erratic blood sugar, and dramatic rises and falls worry me.

GASP! You mean...Microwave Popcorn is NOT the ultimate 'good' food?????? OMG!

I say it should count on the Cereals and Grains level of the food pyramid. :-)

....and so it does, if you're just talking about the popped corn. It's all the crap they add to it that makes it bad news.

Did you see the bit in the news about how fake butter flavoring is carcinogenic? I felt so vindicated. I *never* liked that stuff, in the microzap OR at the movie theater.

(PS: There's a reason why they say that "Hunger is the best sauce".)

Right indeed! My microwave popcorn should count on the Oils and Fats level, it's so gnarly. (Could be worse, though. Orville Redenbacher brand should count as wax.)

At least some movie theaters use real butter, clarified and with the water pulled out of it so it doesn't need refrigeration. (When I worked at the popcorn stand in college, that's what we were using.) It's still nasty, of course. A heart attack can kill you just as dead.

"Hunger is the best sauce"

Exactly! :-)
