I read a book, once, detailing various qualities a prospective pet owner might find in different breeds. The book was about dogs, but much of the advice could also apply to cats. The book discussed friendliness, being good with children, energy, intelligence, playfulness... and then it made a statement many pet owners can identify with. "You might think you want to maximize all of these qualities. Think again about intelligence."

I've been the primary human of dumb cats, and of very very smart cats. Though I adore my smart cats, dumb cats are, well, easier. :-D (Of course, you could probably say the same thing about children.... ;)
