I read a book, once, detailing various qualities a prospective pet owner might find in different breeds. The book was about dogs, but much of the advice could also apply to cats. The book discussed friendliness, being good with children, energy, intelligence, playfulness... and then it made a statement many pet owners can identify with. "You might think you want to maximize all of these qualities. Think again about intelligence."

Yeah. Think again about intelligence.

Also witness the border collie. Too much intelligence and you may as well try to keep a pet monkey. It is only by the grace of god that cats do not have opposable thumbs.

I've been the primary human of dumb cats, and of very very smart cats. Though I adore my smart cats, dumb cats are, well, easier. :-D (Of course, you could probably say the same thing about children.... ;)

I wrote about that video too awhile back. I've watched it at least a dozen times, all the way through, and I crack up every single time! (While giving thanks that Val does his water experiments in the bathtub and has no interest in the toilet, and Friday, though he likes to drink out of the toilet, never learned how to flush!)
