lentil thingy
1. DOUBLE the spices, at least the curry powder and the black pepper and the ginger.
2. YES on the stick blender.
3. Water to other-stuff ratio is perfect for soup.
4. Whoever wrote (on the bag of barley, no less) that 1/4 cup of dry barley makes 2 cups of cooked barley was smoking something. But that's OK, because this would have been just as good without. I'll figure out something else to do with the rest of the barley.
5. YUM!
I'll definitely make this again... when I run out of this batch, which will take a while.
[edited to add: It separates, in an hour or so, into glop and a thin layer of water. There is probably a fancypants way to fix this. Me, I'm happy to just stir it. It certainly stays mixed long enough to eat it.]

Yeah, the barley was nothing as far as this experiment was concerned. I'd decrease the water if I pulled the barley out, leaving perhaps 6 cups of water to my 2.5 cups of lentils, but that's all that would need to change. I bet people eating it would never notice the difference.
I'm so jazzed. I've never made lentil soup before. I adore lentil soup. This took almost no time at all, too, 'cept for waiting for the crock pot. My feet love recipes that don't take much time!
