Wow, when I don't bother to post the boring stuff I really don't have anything to say. I'll be musing on that in the near future.

In the meantime, here's some day-to-day stuff. I had an excellent weekend: a touch of square dance calling, some random socializing with square dancers we don't see often, a Scharffen Berger factory tour, and a day in Napa wine-tasting with [livejournal.com profile] wooddragon while [livejournal.com profile] rfrench walked with us and joked with us and very graciously acted as chauffeur. Man can I spend money in Napa... but the wines and the Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant are SO worth it.

"... a Scharffen Berger factory tour..."

Gee, I wish my "day-to-day stuff" was "boring" like that!

This weekend was definitely not boring! Expensive, and I sure couldn't do it frequently, but scrumptious.

I loved the factory tour. The place itself isn't very big, so a fair bit of the tour was an informational lecture by a guy who really knew what he was talking about. We ran our fingers through a bowl of cacao beans, saw pictures of the trees and of the fermentation process, and got to taste some nibs. The factory was mostly shut down for the weekend, but processes that take multiple days were still running with a skeleton crew to tend the machines. I am now sporting a shirt saying (EXTRA) BITTER, bought in the little gift shop. It smelled like chocolate when I put it on. :-)

Oh man, wasn't that a nice weekend? That restaurant was GREAT! Mmmm, truffle oil! You beat me to the post, but I'm not sure you spent more than me... :) What a delightful day.

That was a fabulous feast. I should have written "Here's some day-to-day stuff that ISN'T BORING!"

Yeah, I bet we're about even in the spending category. Ah well -- it'll be worth it.

A Scharffen Berger factory tour and some good wine, both in such excellent company, sure would be my idea of an excellent weekend! Which reminds me, I can't find the cacao nibs around here anymore. Maybe I can mail order them.

Yes indeed! I bet they'd ship. Have you tried their "nibby bar" with nibs in the chocolate? Crunch!

I never find your posts boring. I love having a peek into a slice of CJ-life. Plus, you're a fabulous writer.

The weekend sounds lovely.

Aw, thanks! It always seems to me that if there's something truly near and dear to my heart, then I won't entrust it to LJ, so that means all you hear about is me being stressed about work or going to call a dance or something. Or, well, getting my car totaled. That wasn't boring either.

wow. what to say first? I had thot of saying "boring
to WHOM?" -- which I think has now sorta been covered
already.

But THEN you said the thing just above about that you
DON'T write about what is really near & dear to your
heart. And, on the one hand, well, duh, of course you
don't, everyone has some things that are simply too
personal or too raw/recent. But, on the other hand,
pretty much everything you write seems (to me) to come
from such a heartful/thoughtful place that me first
reaction is SHOCK. I mean, sure, *I* don't write about
what is nearest & dearest -- but YOU? I thought you
were the example of openness that I could contrast
myself against...... oh well...... um.....

You make a good point that I am very open about a fair number of things. When I've got something too personal going on, I tend to think of myself as not very open at all, but even at those times "hiding" isn't the whole picture. I am generally happy to write about most things.

I can tell some thoughtful introspective posts are coming. Timing will depend on when my subconscious is done and when I have time to type. :-)

To wish you Happy Birthday!

P.S.: See you towards the end of the month, mebbe?

Aw, thank you very much!

Yes, likely, if you're thinking of the event I'm thinking of. I've got a hug on back-order for ya.
