Tonight I just grabbed Duchess and shoved the pill and a half down her throat (separately). The whole operation took less than a minute.

I've been a fool.

Oh well! She's happily eating her wet food now. That stuff is a big time treat when it doesn't taste like pills!

Of course, no sooner is Duchess (hopefully) on the mend than Rob is sick. He is easier to take care of though.

Hopefully Rob isn't missing the litter box!!

He's just missing all his energy! :-)

I'm glad pilling Duchess is working well enough. From my experience pilling cats, sometimes it goes smoothly, other times they spit it back out. Broken pieces spit out are the most difficult to recover. The rest of the difficulty is all in holding the cat still, getting the jaw open, and shoving it down the throat.

My experience agrees with yours. Half the battle seems to be getting the pill deep enough on the first shot, before the cat decides it's WAR.

Will you need to feed Rob his meds similarly?

I just get to soothe his fevered brow. He's MUCH easier to take care of than Duchess is!

Do you need a cat piller? I have one that I don't need right now (since the [livejournal.com profile] lilbluekittans are no longer on prednisone).

Ah! No thanks, actually -- I can usually do well enough on my own. But thank you!

Ah well, we learn by doing. :-)

Just don't shove any pills down Rob's throat. ;-)

So far Rob just gets fruit juice and water down his throat, and he's doing the hard part himself. :-)

Oh, glad to hear you decided to try direct pilling for both the pills. It's so much easier if you can manage it, 'cause it's over with so quickly. And you know you got it all in her. Great that it's working, and she's eating her nonpillish food fine again.

P.S. Mira's back, Mira's back, Mira's BAAAAAACK!!! :D :D :D

=^..^=

I was so worried about the sharp edges. She didn't complain a bit. (O'course, she didn't show any sign of pain with her UTI, either, nor did she complain when I doctored a deep bloody ingrown claw. She's a stoic, she is.)

YAY MIRA! YAY HAVING MIRA HOME! Now you can sleep again, instead of lying awake writhing with guilt!

I was thinking you might be overly concerned 'bout those edges. Glad it turned out fine! Yeah, cats *so* do that stoic thing. Makes it tough to be a properly attentive kitty-mom!

Ohhh, it was so icky coming home to my apt with NO KITTY THERE!!! Bummed me out big time. Kept thinking maybe I saw a movement at the edge of my vision, but it was NO KITTY!!! Writhing with guilt indeed!

So this morning I got to take her home. When I went to spring her from prison, I could her her complaining voice before I saw her. I hope she was just complaining from being put in her carrier and picked up in it, but whatever it was, she was Not Happy. She complained most of the way home, though mellowing a little. After she got home, she seemed fine, spending extra time using her tipped-over cat tree as a scratching post. I stayed home a little longer (was intentionally a bit late to work) and watched her eat a bit, petted her, and just hung out with her some. For both our sakes! It'll be so nice to see her after work tonight, and get to hang out with her properly. Phewwwwww!

It does indeed make it tough to be attentive. I wish she'd complain at least a little so's I could make things better when possible.

Isn't it awful to see your place without feline occupancy? If you're used to a cat being there, it's almost funereal to see the place without her.

Ohhh, seeing my place without her there is so awful to me now! Yeah, "funereal" is the right word. Depressing. Even when I don't see her, just knowing she's there makes a big difference. Amazing how strong that is.

Kitties are love. :-) :-)

Yes, quite! Mmmmmmm, warm kitties!
