Actually, leaving before I had a new job to fall back on was less about the job and more about me. I have a heck of a time searching while holding a job. (Most of my career I've been a consultant, and I've usually looked after my contract was up.) I got all distracted, worried about taking phone calls, etc... and I finally talked to my boss and grandboss and said heck with it.
