I'm ba-aaack

Home safely, around 10 (10:30 at the house) last night. Exhausted. Eleven hours of flying - I can only imagine how tired Rob was. Thank goodness for autopilots.

Am at work now, after doing a bunch of laundry and cleaning up what the cat did. Am now ravenous. I guess maybe I did shift a little toward Central time.

I was imagining these two items being related. :-P Glad you got back okay.

*chuckle* They weren't, but...! :-)

When I packed for this trip I took my LAST sets of socks and underwear, ALL my clean pants, etc etc. It just lined up poorly with the laundry cycle. I'm glad we got home when we did, so I could get myself some decent clothes to wear to work this morning!

YAY!! I'm glad you made it home with no storms or any other unexpected problems to deal with!

The weather was hazy but fabulous, except for continuous moderate turbulence ALL BLASTED DAY. Rob labeled one or two of the stomach-lurching drops "severe". Gah! But nothing was a serious threat, or even an unserious threat, and we did manage to stick with some good enough winds that we only needed two fuel stops. Yay!

Welcome back! :)

Thanks! :)

Next time I'm only six hours from you, maybe I can finagle some time to go see you!

Travelling safely is good. I'm not a great flying sort, though having read you and Rob for so long now, planes smaller than passenger liners are beginning to appeal.

Regardless, a couple of 'severe' drops might have had me needing to do laundry.

Galveston's far enough that an airliner could have gotten us home faster, door-to-door -- IF there had been a flight from Houston to San Jose exactly when we wanted one. The real bonus we get with a small plane is flexibility. There are no hassles with luggage, there's always a flight departing when you want it to, and some of the flights go to small airports (Galveston) the big guys don't reach. :-)

I admit my tummy wasn't perfectly comfortable after that many hours of turbulence! Fortunately the wild drops were rare. If those had been the norm, I might have had to change clothes too.

It's interesting you chose the name "airporter" if you're not much of a fan of flying!

I'm not a fan of flying, but I'm a fan of picking friends and family up at the Vancouver International and transporting them to my home or a hotel.

I try to make sure everybody coming to visit me is met at the airport and have since I got my first car. The Airporter nick came about in 2000, after doing a dozen trips in one week. 'YVRPorter' was already taken when I needed a nick, so...

Oh my! Mister Airport Shuttle! :-) Does that ever get old?

[identity profile] airporter.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, most people just assume I like flying. *grin*

Aaaaaand, you don't have to deal with airport security! :-)

(Normally it's not bad for us, but the long lines suck. And the first time I went through one of those chemical sensor booths, I went claustrophobic all of a sudden. Came out with the shakes. And then they picked me for a carryon luggage shakedown, which took ten really long minutes as they slowly went through EVERY SINGLE THING in my tightly-packed camera bag.)

'Nuff about that. Welcome back! The only thing I remember about visiting Galveston Beach as a child was big waves and oil clots in the water. :-)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes indeed. When we guesstimated jet travel door-to-door times from Galveston we included a generous figure for security. I get picked for the carry-on search very frequently, and there's always an extra delay because these shoes don't come off. Hey! Another advantage to small planes: a LOT less walking! (Getting through an airport means at least a day, sometimes two or three, of pain afterward.)

Thanks! The water wasn't too bad when we were there. I hear it's often got schtuff in it.

glad you're back, safe and sound! i missed you!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hihi! I wasn't all THAT out of touch, was I? :-) Or maybe I was!

[identity profile] just-cyd.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
well, you didn't post much, and i guess i just missed hearing about your days. YOU may think your posts are mundane, but keeping in touch with my friends and hearing about their lives (and how similar they can be to mine) really helps keep me grounded.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
True, I didn't say much. I've been a little quiet lately anyway, but it was particularly noticeable during the few days I was out of town! :-)

Amazing how we all deal with similar problems sometimes, isn't it? *hugs*
