1. For the pain of my sore throat to diminish to the point that Chloraseptic will mask it.
2. For the coughing to slow down enough that a cough suppressant will let me sleep.
3. For the fever to break. (Better today: 99.4.)
4 - 99. More stuff about me me me.
100. World peace.

Apparently when I am sick I am very selfish.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 02:51 am (UTC)
you're allowed to be selfish when you're sick. i think it might be expected. but i don't think your wishes are selfish -- i want you to feel better, too!!!

*faxes you some throat coat tea and a snuggly blankie*
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 02:53 am (UTC)
It's a little disturbing to realize I'd trade world peace for a good throat painkiller right now :)

...ok, not SERIOUSLY, but I'd be awfully darn tempted.

Thanks for the fax! I have a snuggly blankie here and I'm off to make myself some Throat Coat!

When you're sick, it's natural to be selfish. One must get better in order not to be selfish later.

I can't stand Chloroseptic - it tastes like the xylocaine used on the swabs at the dentist before getting a lidocaine injection, and doesn't work well on me, either.

*continuing the get-better vibes, and feeds virtual chicken soup* :-)

It is truly nasty stuff, isn't it? Second only to Robitussin. [TMI ALERT] I threw up when trying to take Robitussin this morning. That stuff is the vilest slime from the bottom of the muck-pits of Hell itself.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 02:59 am (UTC)
I think I've developed a tolerance for Robitussin. It doesn't do much for me, noticeably, anyway, as an expectorant, but it's a good soother. I'm not big on the taste, mind, but I can handle it better than Chloroseptic.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:03 am (UTC)
Guaifenesin doesn't do much for me except in somewhat larger doses, so Robitussin DM and CF (which have other ingredients limiting the dosage) don't have much of an expectorant effect. For that I'll just take the plain guaifenesin. But gawd, the taste. That is unspeakably awful.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:03 am (UTC)
I hate Robitussin.

If they can make the cough syrup that has codine in it taste good then why can't they make Robitussin taste good? I just don't get it.

And I'm being highly selfish right now. I think when you're sick/in pain you're allowed more leeway ;-)
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:04 am (UTC)
No kidding. Kids' cough syrup is way way better than that Robitussin crap. I wonder if Robitussin is single-handedly responsible for the fact that I refuse to eat anything "cherry flavored"!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 04:18 am (UTC)
Weird. I've never had a problem with Robitussin or any of its kin. Taste is a funny thing. (OTOH, don't try to make me swallow GU -- either I won't get it down or I won't keep it down!)

It's okay to be temporarily selfish. My sympathies. I've got a nasty cold now too. Sore throat, no voice, cough, sneezing, stuffed sinuses, overall blah-ness, etc., and it aaaaall happened today! All at once! Ick. Must go sleep now...
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:05 pm (UTC)
What's GU? (A few days into any cold/flu and I get like that with Robitussin, too. Either I won't get it down or I won't keep it down.)

Yuuuuck, it sounds like you're on the Accelerated Plan. I hope that means you get over it more quickly, too. Bleagh! (And with all that stuff going on, I hope you CAN sleep. That's the worst for me right now: can't really sleep.)
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:41 am (UTC)
Hydrocodone! Ask your doctor, it works. Also tends to make one *SLEEP*. Prescription-only, since it's basically synthetic codeine (but works better).
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:43 am (UTC)
Hmm, that gives me an idea. Vicodin is a codeine analog too...
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 03:49 am (UTC)
Actually, Vicodin is just acetaminophen (Tylenol) and hydrocodone. Should work.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:03 pm (UTC)
Perfect. Ah, the advantage of having some form of surgery every couple years... a neverending supply of Vicodin. (Tho' some of it has expired.)
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 04:15 am (UTC)
Robitussin makes WONDERFUL little "cough gels" ... gel caps that are just as effective as the cough syrup, although they take a little longer to start working. Two gels are good for up to 8 hours. I've spent the past week-plus living on the things, and I think they're great.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 05:18 am (UTC)
Hee! I said the same thing. And Walgreens has their own brand which are cheaper. I got the same size bottle of the Walgreens ones for $1.99.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:02 pm (UTC)
Yeah, even in the syrup I get the Walgreens or Long's or whatever brand. Same active ingredient, same awful awful taste!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:01 pm (UTC)
That is EXCELLENT news. I need to go look for these! Thank you!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 04:47 am (UTC)
If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything. And, if you're in charge, neither does anyone else. ;)
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:00 pm (UTC)
Woohoo! I haven't had anything since I was twelve! ;-) No wonder we're making no progress on world peace, eh?
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:56 pm (UTC)
Come to think of it, I haven't had anything since at least age 12 too --- and I had migraines starting at age 6.

Do you know, most people I am acquainted with feel pretty crappy a lot of the time? Maybe world peace is an elusive goal because *everyone* puts it at #100 or so on the priority list, after finding a cure for back pain or cancer or just being able to walk around....
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 07:53 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I bet that's it.

(Holy moly, migraines since six? Yeow.)
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 05:17 am (UTC)
Robitusson comes in pills now. They are amazing because you don't gag when you take them like the liquid crap.

Feel better quick or I'll make you go swimming!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 01:01 pm (UTC)
That may be the best thing I've heard all week. MUST go look for these now!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 05:55 pm (UTC)
Sigh. When my throat hurts that bad, I have a hard time reading or concentrating even enough to, say, watch movies. I hope it breaks soon!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 07:55 pm (UTC)
Yeah, my concentration isn't great. I'm also not sleeping well at all. Hopefully soon! Usually a throat THIS bad only lasts me a few days.
