NaNoWriMo

I'm doing NaNo again this year. I'll limit my posting about my trials and tribulations to a specific filter, as I suspect many non-NaNo-ers wish *everyone* on LJ would do ;-).

If you want to be on it or want to be off it, holler. ([livejournal.com profile] layer, I gotcha covered.)

I want on it!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Done! (You already were -- I'm using last year's filter.)

[identity profile] layer.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you dear.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Anytime.

[identity profile] lesliepear.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
i'll listen

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Done! (and if you regret it, I can undo it later -- no worries. I get *very* babbly.)

I wanna be on! As it is I have never gotten to read a single NoNoWriMo person's results... but I'm definitely interested. :)

Or at least... just seeing the trails and tribulations...

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Done! It's mostly trials and tribulations. OK, mostly whining and wordcount! :-)

[identity profile] rampling.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope I'm still on it! Love to cheer you on!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
You um... weren't. Odd. Well, you are now!

(Now I'm wondering what filter I used last year. Clearly not the one called NaNoWriMo!)

On, please. I want to be able to make you another Crap Certificate again this year. ;-)

I think NanNoWriMo is going to be one of those things I stop thinking Maybe next year about - I've got waaaay too much to get done next month, and it seems like that just keeps getting worse. And once I'm back in grad school, well...

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That was an EXCELLENT certificate!

Yeah, one of the things we have to do as time goes on is pick and choose. Committing to a big goal spends time and energy you then can't use for something else. It's all about what's really important to you.

(Sadly, this is one reason I haven't chosen any big goals to work on -- it's difficult for me to close the door to the things on the rest of the list!)

You MUST put me on your NaNo filter. Otherwise, I might have to, you know, KILL you.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
You were already there, no worries! I bet I know what this filter held before: people who *were doing* NaNo. It was a read filter. Now it's a write filter. Eh well. :-)

Absolutely!

[identity profile] therobbergirl.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to hear about it, please.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
You're in!

[identity profile] lkeele.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Me, on, of course, if I'm not all ready!

I signed up for Nano. In order to do Nano, I have to write my 8 pages a day, AND translate 7 pages of mathematical French (into English, of course), every day. Assuming I finish my Cantor paper by Oct. 31. I dunnoo... God, it was so fun last year. But this dissertation takes priority..

Here I am, me me me, all about me.... Good luck to you in Nano 2005, Ceej!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
You were on already -- probably 'cause you did NaNo in 2004.

I hear ya! I have two big square dance weekends in November every year, one of which is four days out of my writing schedule, and I have this (more than) full-time job, too. I know exactly what you mean. BUSY!

But hey, other people can do a helluva lot when they get their priorities figured out -- so you and I can too. Right? [channeling Yenta] Of COURSE right! :-)

Good luck to you too!

ON!

[identity profile] daltong.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
On, please.

I'm hoping I can do it this year, too.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I got really weirded out when I couldn't find you in the "Not In Group" list so I could add you. What's going on? I thought. daltong isn't on my friends list??

Then I saw you were already there! 8-) Perhaps 'cause you did NaNo last year.

Please?

[identity profile] nurvuslee.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
I've decided to do NaNoWriMo this year so I'd love to hear about yours!

Re: Please?

Cool! You're on -- and I'd love to hear about yours too!

[identity profile] sharya.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I think I wasn't on your list last year when you wrote about it... what's NaNo?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You're on!

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, although it's long since gone INTERnational. The challenge is to write 50K words in November. Participants congratulate themselves on the insanity of it all.

From the book written by the guy who started it all: "Once upon a time I believed that you needed to have several things before you set out to write a novel. These were, in order of importance: 1) Heart-fibrillating amounts of coffee 2) Plot 3) Character 4) Setting. [...paraphrase: no, you don't need any of this; you need a super magical productivity tool.] What you need to write a novel, of course, is a deadline."

I'm not here as often anymore, but when I am, I enjoy reading anything you feel inclined to write and share with me. Consider this a blanket request for my inclusion in any and all filters you deem appropriate. :-)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
*nod* Gotcha. :-) You're on the filter. How is the poker playing going, and how is your wife doing?
