Gotta give this a few points for sheer passive-aggressiveness. "The Feds didn't move fast enough in Katrina? All right, how about having the Department of Defense and its armed troops automatically in charge from the get-go?"

My laugh isn't a pleasant relaxed chortle. This state of denial ("It'll never pass") takes effort to maintain.

Why stop at disaster recovery? Let's just turn the Army into a great big Federal Department of Public Safety. Let 'em fight forest fires, shovel snow after blizzards, dig out after mudslides, all that stuff. (I write this half in jest, but a lot of countries do use their armies this way.)
