Still a little too early to tell, perhaps, but if I push on the ball of my foot with my thumb it hurts in an old familiar way. (Non-numb area.)

Well, crud.

Footnotes and Disclaimers, to save some typing.
- Yes, there is still the possibility that my overall pain level will be better than before. In fact, that's probably still likely.
- Yes, I am sure this is not post-op pain masquerading as something else (it's in the wrong place, for one thing, and it's waaaay too familiar).
- Yes, it helps that an outcome of "partial improvement" was pretty much obvious from the start: the blow is softened just a little.
- No, I'm not particularly looking for sympathy -- no obligation to comment -- I'm just disappointed and I don't yet have much energy to face the next steps.

i'm tempted to (playfully) smack your hands and tell you "no! quit doing that!" in the hopes that delaying any such trials would alter the results. 'cause i really really really want this to be successful for you. and i care enough to be a pain in the ass if it means less pain in your feet. a long distance Nurse Ratchet?

looking forward -- is there any plan in place to teach you how to walk properly on your new-and-improved feet? i seem to recall you walking weird to lessen the pain, but with the mechanics of your feet altered slightly, i'd think there'd be some re-training necessary, or post-op PT (mom had that). will orthodics be required? let me find my teleporter and i'll be right over to take you shoe-shopping.

I wish I believed waiting would alter the results! Nah, if they can't take the level of pressure I applied with my thumb, they're going to be really unhappy with running. Gotta talk to the doctor more about this at my next post-op (week and a half from now).

Doc has already mentioned PT and orthotics. If I need new and different orthotics it'll be my third set! And ohhhh, yeah, I wish you could come with me to go shoe shopping. You could be my moral support: "CJ, this store doesn't HAVE custom shoes. Let's go to the next one."
