I got tagged with the book version of the movie quiz. The most interesting nugget from this is how many books I own. I've never counted. I love books, I buy books, I have trouble getting rid of books (but I will cull when pressed), and one of the most relaxing things I do is curl up with a good book. I figured I might have several hundred.

I started mentally counting bookcases in the house -- only mine, not rfrench's, and not the shelves with quilts on them. I believe I have between 150 and 175 linear feet of books. I'm sure that's at least twelve books per foot, probably a good bit more on average, so somewhere between 1800 and 2100 books as a conservative estimate.

I have almost enough shelves. About twenty linear feet of books are packed in boxes or stacked next to / atop stuffed bookcases. If I had never gotten rid of any books, I'd probably have double the number I have now, with WAY too little shelving for all of them; whole rooms would be paved one-deep in book boxes. It is intriguing to think about what effect my book habit has on my mortgage payment (and vice versa).

Ohhh yeah. I've seen that page before, posted by a LJ-friend, and it spurred me to a few weeks of decluttering activity. Wouldn't half mind doing another burst like that.
