I have plane tickets to go see The Mikado. The eastbound leg is a redeye with a plane-change four hours in. That'll be tasty.

I have no idea how I'm getting out to Natick from the airport, but hey, I'll figure out something. If nothing else Boston has public transportation. My parents aren't but two miles from a commuter rail station, and they're even less far from an airport bus that might still be running. Extra bonus points: it's winter, so if I walk a couple miles I'm also icing my feet! Yeah OK, that was lame humor. And that last sentence was worse.

Now I don't know whether to tell my parents ahead of time or surprise them. 8-) 8-) Maybe I'll find out whether they have come across my LiveJournal yet!

i second the vote for surprise. could you alert a friend of theirs, or another relative, just to make sure any last-minute changes get communicated to you? to to make sure your surprise plans don't backfire? a good accomplice is priceless when it comes to surprises.

I talked to my sister this evening. She would be my first choice for accomplice. She actually voted for letting them know ahead of time. She said give 'em the extra fun of looking forward to the visit. I guess there's some truth to that, so that's what I'll do.

Hee, I'm getting excited about this trip. Silly me -- I am going to be so sleep-deprived I'll prolly come down sick, but I'm excited about it anyway.

Natick? Did you say Natick? You do know that's where I live, right? There is a bus that runs directly from the airport to the Shopper's World Plaza on the Natick/Framingham line called the Logan Express.

Here's a link: http://www.massport.com/logan/getti_typeo_logan.html

You can email me off LJ with questions about just how far that might be from their house.

Very cool :-)

Ooh cool, the Logan Express *is* still running! Thank you, that's exactly the information I needed!

That's the bus I was thinking about. Shopper's World is walking distance from their house... well, in good weather. ;-) They're off Speen Street.

Surprise!

Yay!

Hi! Um, I dropped in from [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna's journal, when I saw that you're here in Mountain View where I am... (*tries desperately to not make this sound bizarre/creepy/stalker/dorky*)

Just wanted to say hello! It's always nice to see that there are other cool people in my vicinity!

And, to throw in the random $0.02 of a complete stranger whose opinion you have no reason to appreciate or heed, I'd say surprise them. Having been surprised by someone dear to me who'd flown almost as far as you're going to, to see me on stage, I can say it's almost a better buzz than the show itself. :)

Hi! *wave*

When I'm not at work, I'm in Sunnyvale. Close enough, though.

Yeah, I did have that itch to surprise them, but my sister (first choice for "accomplice in the surprise") said tell them ahead of time and let them anticipate it. So I did. They were incredibly happy over the phone. I still think maybe the surprise would have been better, but oh well, what's done is done. :)

Hi, CJ! Haven't talked to you in years -- how ya doing? :-) (That's rhetorical, of course, since I can read your LJ, but hey.)

As it happens, I work in Natick, on Rt. 9. If you're coming in on a weekday, I *might* be able to give you a ride from Logan Express to your parents' place. Depends on schedules and stuff. We can work out the details if you send me email at my old school address (remember it?).

Hihi! How are YOU doing? (That's not rhetorical, 'cause I can't see diddly in your LJ.) :-)

Wow, you work on Route 9? My old home stomping grounds! Small world. As it happens, I'm coming in on Saturday morning, but thanks for the offer.

Do you remember when you were inking posters for MITGSP's "Iolanthe", and you showed me the nice pen you were using, and I took it and made dots on a paper rather roughly? And you stopped me because that was bad for the tip of the pen, but I didn't understand at first, and I didn't stop immediately? I still feel bad about that. You'll probably laugh, but it's true. :-) Ah, the things we get hung up on!

You know what? I don't remember that pen incident at all. Not a bit. :-) And yes, my LJ is quite intentionally empty (long story), but we should get caught up anyway... Yeah, I work at The MathWorks, on that obscure little program called MATLAB. And I'm writing a book. And climbing mountains, and stuff like that. Please do send me email!
