Feet: I paid dearly for that half-mile run. I am still hobbling. :-(

Work: I've got a list as long as my arm of topics I want to learn more about. Perhaps another post on this later.

LJ: Catching up, after a weekend away, I reached "skip=475". My reading filter is about to get some SERIOUS pruning. First to go, and I'm sad about this: [livejournal.com profile] tmi_chix. I like the on-topic content, but it's not worth wading through the "am I pregnant?" posts for it. Le sigh, where's my stapler, etc.

Well, the usual advice is cold immediately after injury (or exercise which stresses a structure enough to induce inflammation, which is basically an injury on small scale) -- reduces further damage done by detritus released in cell destruction. Alternating heat and cold later on should improve circulation to the area. Many long-term inflammation problems in structures like tendons are due to the poor blood supply for these types of structures and the presence of scar tissue, which is why physical therapy techniques to break up scar tissue and essentially re-injure the area can work.

In other words, it's worth a try!

Thanks for the more detailed information -- I didn't know that. I'll make sure, if I go for temperature-related soaks, to choose cold after exercise and alternations when I haven't just been annoying my feet.

If blood supply is a big issue, it sounds like exercise that doesn't use the feet much would be good too, yes? Swimming, for example, or maybe cycling, I could do just to get the blood moving.
