Spent two days lying down. Vicodin isn't "not enough" any more; it's "not nearly enough."

The pain comes and goes in waves, and (with Vicodin) in between peaks, I can read. I read five books. Two Robin Cooks, two Tess Gerritsen, one "filovirus gets loose". Reading medical thrillers when in pain is... unique. Still, I enjoyed them, as every one was a book I had never read before. What a treat! I do so enjoy books. :-)

Today, called Helena Women's Health Center again. I have an appointment for, well, um, some time after my next period. *sigh*

Now I'm caught up on LJ. Cool. Caught up on spam deletion; only ran out of disk quota twice. Will have to disable that account before leaving for a week.

Joe, sorry I never responded to your mail about lunch. You can guess why I didn't go.

Tuesday (before cramps attacked in any major way): ran 3 miles in 35:45.
Today: ran 4 miles, guesstimated by time (fifty minutes).

BOUGHT SHOES! GS, the mission was a success. Didn't get the ones they were holding for me; the obviously super-competent saleswoman said "you're pronating, try THIS one" and it felt much better. I was surprised at the difference in my, er, foot posture?, when running versus standing. Standing, I pronate slightly; running, it's dramatic. I'm glad to have good shoes. They were fiendishly expensive. Ten percent discount when I mentioned Bay to Breakers, though!

Also bought Neosporin-Plus-Pain-Relief goo. Took apart the blister-storm on my left foot; covered the result with goo and nice dressing with surgical tape all over it. Feels no worse now. The way my skin tends to go, it should be toughened up pretty well in two days.

one month ago? Having extreme pain. Four weeks ago today I was in the doctor's office scheduling exploratory surgery.

six months ago? Working at a place that seemed to hate me. Losing someone I used to be close to.

one year ago? Enjoying a brand new hot tub. Closing on the house (loan assumption due to one person leaving). Having dinner at La Fondue with a new friend and his wife.

five years ago? Living in an apartment in Sunnyvale. Had just quit one soul-killing job and, had I but known it, was soon to embark upon another. I was a newly minted private pilot and loving that. Princess, my most beloved cat ever, had (as it turns out) another nine months to live.

ten years ago? Living in downtown Palo Alto in an apartment the size of a walk-in closet. Had just been adopted by Critter, a tiny black feline fluffball who had ten times more love than most other cats. (He got along great with Princess once they established that she was the boss.) Trying lots of creative ways to keep raccoons from coming in the cat door.

fifteen years ago? Dating the man I would eventually share my life with. Juggling school, ROTC, and learning how to be a social being (hey, that's tough when you don't get the learning as a child).

twenty years ago? I was in high school and had yet to figure out why anyone would voluntarily date a boy. I hadn't yet figured out how to skip class and not get caught, either, so I was bored out of my skull.

twenty-five years ago? My family was settling into our new house in Natick, Massachusetts. Princess, my most beloved cat ever, had arrived just the previous fall as a birthday present for me and I had spent days coaxing her out from underneath furniture. I was taking piano from Mrs. Golan, who despaired of me.

The fun part about this is how much it skips over! :-)
