What are your comforts? I'll put some of mine behind the cut. Baking Warm blankets A cat purring Fun books that aren't full of toxic Music Sticking my head out the window to feel the sunshine
Soaking in a bathtub and reading A tasty meal A good cup of coffee or tea Knitting and listening to a book Playing point and click puzzle adventure games A cat purring Stretching out to sexy music
Thank you! Finally got to a desktop where I can take a look. The imagery shown in the clip on the Ghosts of Maple Creek web page looks gorgeous. If you had to pick one of these to recommend to a complete newbie, which would you suggest?
I think Ghosts of Maple Creek would give you the clearest idea of how HOPA games often work. It's one of the better ones. Though it is a horror game.
The Room is in a class by itself and I don't think, other than the sequels, there's anything like it out there in terms of sucking you in and getting you to hammer away at difficult puzzles.
Horror isn't particularly a genre I tend to go for, but I could try that one out to get a sense. The Room sounds _really_ nifty though, if it's all about getting the player to work on puzzles. :-D
Now my challenge is to AVOID getting either of these until after a phone interview tomorrow; until then my time is better spent preparing. Heh.
There is of course what I said on mewe. I'll add: - getting to talk online with friends, including you - the look, feel and thought of birds' eggs - building and contemplating soil - paying attention, though that also yields its pains - getting glimpses through reading, observation and enquiry how other people's and creatures' minds work - the feel of yoghurt with granola on the tongue - strong drink, though I don't like to be drunk - laughing, though granted I do less of that these past 3.5 years - sleeping - showering - drinking cold water - more
And from the cheap satisfactions list, tripping up cocksure shabby oppressive of-coursers.
What a kind thing to say. I do indeed notice, which is mostly a pleasure, but is one of the things that gives me so much trouble with repetitive conversation.
Interesting that you said this today: it's relevant to something I was thinking earlier and will micro post about.
Baking here too. Strangely, washing the dishes. Biking. Reading SFF, preferably with cat, though I do not have a resident cat at the moment, and nobody seems to want to give me one, since I can't swear in blood that my housemates will move heaven and earth to keep said cat indoors. This makes me sad.
Oddly, washing dishes for me too, and I wouldn't have thought of it!
Aw, no resident cat = sad, and the reason for it seems sadder. I know why people get up in arms about that question, but given that we have way more cats in the shelter system than we have adopters for them, is that really the only answer we can come up with? :(
My comforts include Fidget jewelry Cat cuddles Husband cuddles Dancing Gardening Working out Reading good stories Writing something satisfying Making art (should do that again) Tasty food (including potatoes, toast, chocolate, Italian deli meats, and fruit among others) Soft colorful comfy clothes
Today is the soft svaha leggings with blue green and purple fish scales pattern and the blue stretchy racerback tank with the window in back. The leggings have proper pockets down the thighs for like a phone and a wallet, and I'm barefoot. Because comfy.
Also, oddly, being made to tidy the whole house and clear the surfaces. Because I find that difficult to motivate, alone, but if J asks, or the cleaning folks are coming, or having company over (sadface) I'll stick to the job and see it done, and them I get the reward of the job is done.
Oh interesting! I can get motivated to clean or tidy an area, but the whole place - that’s over-the-top daunting and that in turn makes me want to go crawl in a hole. :)
Mine requires constant upkeep or it's just...not. No insulation, two cats, a secondary sloppy human...it puts me through my paces, I'll say that. But when it's all done and cleaned up it's wonderful - until it isn't, which takes less time than it should.
Oh, doesn’t it always? How quickly clean turns into not is like some cosmic reflection on entropy, and it makes me wish there were a simple setting on the Universe: scale this entropy thing back a little, wouldja? :)
For me it’s not _quite_ “never”. I find the act of cleaning to be somewhat soothing. But from here, what I’d want is a lot closer to “never” than to what we have now. :)

Ooo, point and click puzzle adventure games? What are those? They sound like something I might enjoy.

The Ghosts of Maple Creek is a favorite of mine, though it is quite old.
They're puzzles and object collection games where you're playing a character and advancing in a story.
The Room was the first one I ever played.
Both of those stories are a bit dark, but kinda cool.
https://www.artifexmundi.com/g/ has a lot of them.

Drinking cold water! Some days there's nothing that can come even close to that simple joy.
