That event that Joe didn't want us to go to. :-( All things considered, while there is still more work for them to do, at least one more person to remove from a position of power, things went relatively well. I for one had a really great time, and it was the best opportunity this year for me to see some people who were really important to me. I was impressed at the social dance instruction, how the instructors taught how to ask for a dance, how to refuse one, how to accept one, how to touch, and how to indicate injury and a need to be touched more carefully. One of the instructors gave a definitive declaration that "GENDER IS OVER."
I am glad you got to see people who are important to you. I find that the older I get, the more meaningful that is to me: building connections and in particular being able to see people in person.
I would be so thrilled if gender were over. Wow. What a huge improvement in my quality of life that would be!
One person in particular I would have had to take another plane flight to the east coast to see at a different time.
They were talking about gender in terms of social dance partners, but I wish everyone could be free to express exactly what gender they wanted and as much or as little of it as they wanted.
I do think that at some nebulous time in the future people will more widely understand how harmful some of our socialized gender role stuff is. I’m pretty sure we will never reach perfection on that axis but I think we will improve. My nieces’ children and grandchildren will struggle less with roles and constructs.
