My dad has taught my nieces to play Hex. They're nine and five, so there's not a ton of strategy yet. My heart is warmed at the thought that the family tradition continues! He came back from the dollar store yesterday with a little plastic tub... and a roll each of nickels and pennies. He dumped those into the tub. Ta-daaa, merry Christmas, here are game pieces. :) :) :) :)
