Grease pencils

I finally did find these in a hardware store. Sure enough, they were called "china markers" instead.

This is the BEST. I can write on my Tupperware lids (date, contents) as easily as I can write on the crock pot (time). The marking substance has a tendency to melt onto the crock; my favorite recipe is done in two stages, so when I want to write a time, the crock is already very warm. But it's still perfectly readable if I'm careful.

Best of all, if I forget to take the marking off, the dishwasher leaves no trace of it.

[edit for accuracy: Dishwasher cleans the crock spotlessly, but not the plastic. Oh well.]

CJ and CJ give this idea two thumbs up.

awesome idea!

It beats the pants off of writing everything on insufficiently-sticky masking tape with a dying Sharpie.

Very like! Did she suggest this particular one?

No idea, but it's nice that you're sharing these tidbits.

I think it's appalling that I got to be 41 without realizing the obvious handy way to mark things in a kitchen. I wish more people would share stuff like this. Not everybody had a mom who was a kitchen worshipper!

We use a grease pencil at work for writing the time on urine sample lids. Just thought you might wanna try that. :-P

Another difference I wouldn't have thought of -- our urine samples are in small test tubes. :-)

LOL, I wanna see you get a cat to pee in a cup!

A dog will pee in a soup ladle, but for cats (and whenever possible for dogs) we draw it with a needle. Better for cultures that way.

Into a ladle? Remind me never to have soup at your house!!! ;-)

There are better reasons to avoid eating my cooking!

WHERE?!?!?! I have been searching every hardware store near me for china markers and nobody has them. I need some for that very reason...writing on tupperware.

The Home Depot on De Anza near 85 has them.
