Acne FOR THE WIN!

It's 6:20pm and the doorbell rings. This is never a good sign. Sure enough, when I open the door, there's a lone young woman with one of those leather-like folders that almost always means magazine subscription sales. I begin to prepare my polite go-away response.

Much to my astonishment, I am greeted with:

"I'm sorry for disturbing you. Is your mom or dad home?"

[identity profile] tiger-spot.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
And did you tell her... no?

Or did you tell her "I am my mom and dad!" which is the first thing that popped into my head just now? And gets creepier the longer I look at it....

I need sleep.

I told her no, which I figured was the truth as I was alone in the house... but on further reflection, it was 9:20pm on the east coast and they probably were home.

I have, in many ways, turned into my mom -- including the acne well into middle age. Fortunately, though, I don't have myself as a daughter. That would be a little bit much for my brain to cope with.

LOL. Congrats on being "carded" at home.

"I am all the daughters of my father's house, and all the brothers too-—and yet I know not."

[identity profile] bigjohnsf.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! She's good!

Is your credit card on fire?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I think my brain just exploded; maybe that's close enough. :-)

[identity profile] eveningscribe.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO, my first thought was similar, "How many subscriptions did you buy?"

[identity profile] datagoddess.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cool - what did you say?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
"No." :-) She went away and I told her cheerily to have a nice evening. WIN!

[identity profile] ladycelia.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly, you are embracing the whole 'college student thing'.

[identity profile] sharya.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
LoL I was thinking the same thing!

[identity profile] antayla.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, acne is the source of the Elixir of Youth. Good to know.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Either that or the Elixir of Youth grants permanent acne. Hard to figure out which. :-)

Right now I'm worse than the pimpliest teenager ever to walk the earth. I wonder to what extent it's hormonal.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I have to learn the latest vocabulary, then see if I can get myself carded at a bar. ;-)

*g*
That is a good feeling, isn't it?

I love it when I get asked what my major is.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
It took me a while to figure out what to answer when asked what my major is. I'm finally saying the closest thing to the truth while also being immediately understandable: "pre-med". That's a better explanation than "Oh, electrical engineering/computer science, but that was twenty years ago, and I don't really have a major now, but I need to just get some classes out of the way...." They've wandered off by then. :-)

[identity profile] eveningscribe.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO!

I bet you NEVER thought you'd ever say, "Acne for the win" in your lifetime, didjya??

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
A very good point. I'm in the middle of my worst breakout since my teens, and this stuff is NASTY.

[identity profile] plymouth.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
I just found a sample of "age defying" skin serum on my bathroom shelf. 'Cause, really, I'd like my 32-yr-old still breaking out skin to look YOUNGER with MORE ACNE! I'm kinda ready for my skin to "grow up" a little...

[identity profile] lauradi7.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
That beats the phone call I got yesterday, asking if I was "Laura's mother."
I'm a 52 year old college student (again) and I guess they assumed from my name on a list that I live "at home."

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when I was registering at DeAnza and buying obvious freshman supplies like a decent calculator, I was asked "do you have a high school senior?" Why yes, I keep one in my back pocket all the time. :-) I *am* the right age, though. When my mom was 41, as I now am, I WAS a high school senior. (Maybe junior.)
