Next time you agree to take on an extra seven-hour shift, check to see whether it's midterms week.

Never mind the solubility rules; memorize the strong acids and bases.

This week, get ahead of things instead of playing catch-up, okay? Sleep is good stuff. You want some. Really.

Especially memorize the strong acids and bases BEFORE you use your thumb as a stopper, and get it caught in the neck of the beaker holding the fuming acid.

Note that for once this didn't happen to me, but a person in our class became an object lesson for chemistry classes to come.

Do you have to memorize the weird ones too, like triflic acid and fluorantimonic acid? Or just the usual six?

Oh boy! I got to be the object lesson last week, when one of the compounds we were working with was sodium hydroxide. My lab partner pointed out a small strange itchy bump on her arm, and I said wash it now. I showed her the really nice scar I have from ignoring that principle in high school chem.

Nope, we just have to memorize the six strong ones and assume everything else is weak. We've encountered homework problems on stuff I had to look up on Google to get the formula (seriously, the textbook used the compound but never told us what it was).

Sleep is indeed great stuff. Another note to self: if you work three days, wash three sets of scrubs ahead of time! Durrr. I wore a lovely maroon top with a bright royal blue pair of pants today. I'm sure I'm setting trends for veterinary clinic workers all over the South Bay.
