I was speaking to a friend last night about being both excited and terrified for this new teaching thing and he said that he thought that terrified was a component of excited because you are reaching past what is known and safe.

Congratulations! Aren't you going to post your resignation letter so we can read/enjoy it? :-) I wonder if I still have mine. Could make for some interesting reading. Don't be scared. You could easily step back in to high-tech if needed. But don't do it!! Enjoy the experience. Not many people get this opportunity. Best wishes.
Terrified at the beginning is normal, IMHO. I'm still somewhat scared. What if I can't...? What if they don't...? etc. Just keep plugging along. I try not to let all those What Ifs eat my brain.
wow, CJ. Good luck and congratulations to you. Now that I've finished my program, I have to get on the stick and do something about it. I'm not "tied to my job" - funding ends as of 2010 and we all sort of understand the job will be over then (lab closes down, boss retires) but... that doesn't mean I couldn't leave before that. Where are you in school now? Have you started the vet school, or still doing the pre-reqs? Boy... writing a resignation letter for an entire career. That's really something. Something I also will be doing eventually. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
