Today I also bought two spatulas (spatulae? *grin*) and a food processor. Rob says I need to get the hang of this "saving money" thing. I think he's right -- I probably could have found a used food processor, if I'd spent some time at it, though time is kinda the problem -- but I also suspect that eating my own cooking with so little waste thus far may already have gone a long way toward purchasing me this thing. It *was* nearly fifty percent off when all the discounts came in. It's one of these, and OMG no, I did not pay THAT for it.

One of my spa-tu-lee is already noticeably yellow. To give you an idea, it started out black. Heh heh heh. The food processor has yet to be unveiled, 'cause I already had the spinach and onion chopped for the palak paneer.

(Also today: bean soup. Onion roast going in tonight. I will be busy scrubbing a crock in 3... 2... 1...)

OMG, I have one of these food processors, and it's lasted *forever*; worth every penny I spent. The only thing I've replaced is the feeder bit, and that cost me practically nothing. Otherwise, all original parts.

Food processors *rock*.

Oh I'm so glad you said that! Your opinion on kitchen objects I trust. And it's even dishwasherable!

NEXT onion roast I am not going to shed a single tear. (This one I chopped the onions yesterday & have 'em in a little bag in the fridge.)

That's very similar our machine, perhaps a bit bigger and older. We replaced the blade, but because it was lost, not broken.

I wouldn't have minded the smaller version I found, which is only 3 cups of capacity rather than 7. But the small one comes with only ONE blade, the "blender blade". I wanted slicer and grater. Ah well, a 7 cup one goes in the dishwasher just as easily as a 3 cup one!

Yep, I've had one of these since (counts on fingers) 1990 or so (not the fancy stainless steel version, the original). Still use it, too.

Awesome! This is going to be SO GOOD. Enough with the effing ONION CHOPPING.

(I am getting better at that, though. Step 1: Buy the onions in the morning and put them in the fridge until evening! That helps lots.)

ooh, food processor :D i love my little braun (http://www.amazon.com/Braun-MR5550CA-Multiquick-Professional-Blender/dp/B00006I4YF), and yours looks like it'll do a lot more.

OOOO I have a stick blender. (On my browser that's what shows at your link - something I'd call a "stick blender".) Mine doesn't have that drum-shaped attachment, though, to turn it into more of a food processor. It just goes in and whirs. :-) I ADORE my stick blender. It makes lentil soup. I don't do this all that often, but when I do, there is nothing like the stick blender.

That might have helped chop up my spinach more finely, too, now that I think of it. I've never used it in a skillet!

yep, it's a stick blender with attachments to turn it into a food processor. very handy :)

Excellent! And very washable, too, I don't doubt. That's one of the best attributes. :-)

yeah :) i remember the bad old days when no one bothered about the washability of their bladed thingies

My mom had a food processor when I was growing up, and washing it was a chore. The modern ones seem to be designed with magic in them, so that anything that gets dirty can be separated perfectly from electric stuff that shouldn't get wet.

I'm impressed at how well turmeric can turn black into yellow. Just freaky.

Isn't that WEIRD? I would have sworn that stuff was as dark as it could get. Now it's sort of like someone emptied a glow-stick onto it.

Spatuloi! Spa-wheeeeee!

Which spatulas did you choose?

I got one Martha Stewart Mini Turner (pic), and thank goodness I got mini because it's barely fitting in the dishwasher. That's the one that's now yellow. :-) I also got one... um... can't remember the name, about the same size, also black hard plastic head, and far fewer holes in it. I couldn't find any with zero holes, and I was in a hurry, so I took these.

I get that way sometimes. If I read a word enough times in a short span, it stops looking like a real word. Then I can think of all the other ways a word spelled like that could have been pronounced... :-)

congrats on your new baby! food processors ROCK. you'll need to do some kitchen show-n-tell here, so we can admire your mad cooking toolz! :)

Hah! Anyone with half a brain would sneer at my kitchen. But that's OK. I'm doing what I need to do. Rob may be a bit uncomfortable about it for a while, though! Money! Spices!!
