Slices carved from roast turkey (not cold cuts)
Black beans with shredded cheeeeese on top*
Chilled asparagus and almond "salad" with some fresh-ground pepper

I managed to get this at the cafeteria in our building. Yay me! I think it involved every permissible food they had in the whole place except the mushrooms.

I am trying very hard not to think about the group that went out for dosas today. For months I'd tried to get people interested in going for dosas, and now, on day 2 of my being unable to eat pretty much anything South Indian, they all go. Grump. But I'm not thinking of that; I'm eating my yummy asparagus. Right? Right.

Thanks for the link! My list is a little more detailed and in some ways different than that one. ILADS says go easy on the strawberries, while my printout doesn't mention them; ILADS makes more sense. ILADS doesn't mention carrots while my printout forbids them -- well, they're sweet as all get-out, so maybe I should be cautious on those. ILADS is stricter on forbidding flour, although maybe they mean wheat flour. ILADS is also stricter on fruit juice, disallowing it completely, while my printout allows for small amounts of some (orange in particular, which makes no sense, as that's a glycemic spike I was already avoiding beforehand). I'd love to see an expansion of some of those "etceteras".

My printout says dark chocolate (70% and higher) only. I am surprised it would explicitly allow that, because almost all dark chocolates have some sugar. I guess just looking closely for how much sugar content is key.

I can't imagine going through this kind of regimen (the Biaxin, anyway) without probiotics. I would be so hosed. I am so sorry that you are dealing with intestinal pain and infection WITH all this other stuff. That's just awful.

I do have a refrigerated lactobacillus product so it sounds like that is good.

Vitamins! Good point; I wonder which ones in particular are hard to get on this kind of diet. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some vitamins or minerals that are particularly low. I'm on D3 and B12 but currently no other supplementation. I should probably restart my massive multivitamins.

Thanks again. This kind of feedback is really helpful!

I think I'd avoid the carrots. They are very high in sugar. One way to gauge the sugar amount is to check out the diabetic diet sites -- they're also really good at explaining portion controls for items w sugar.

As I said before, a lot of doctors are recommending avoiding gluten. Which would mean cutting out wheat at the very least, but also spelt, rye, and even oats if they aren't produced in a gluten-free factory. After that, though, to reduce overall carb intake, it's probably wise to avoid starches in general (even rice bread).

I wish there was more to say about the etc. too. And seriously, I do experiment and see how I feel. How I feel is basically what guides me.

Be careful with the supplementation. Like the probiotics, you have to time when to take them because their use can inhibit the absorption of the antibiotics. My Cefdinir antibiotic specifically states "Take this medication at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after magnesium or aluminum containing antacids, or other products containing calcium, iron, or zinc". You may want to see what the case is with yours --- ask the pharmacist/doctor. Clarithromycin doesn't have that warning on it for me, it just says to take it with food and don't get knocked up.

Yeah, I'll skip carrots and do some diabetes-diet research. Now I need to look at the whole oats I have and see if I can find out whether they were produced in a gluten-free factory -- although maybe levels of gluten in the "contaminant" range are bearable?

I am pretty sure I am told to avoid rice in all forms anyway. Gotta go look at the grains section again. Soon this will be lodged in my brain, but for now, it's like studying for a test!

Thanks for the tip on vitamin and mineral timing. I can move that over to the "probiotic" slot in the schedule, which is as far from the antibiotics as I could get it. The B12 would be harder to switch though, as it's refrigerated and by injection, so I kind of want to do that one when I'm at home. Pills are so convenient by comparison...
