I'm sitting here writing a LiveJournal post while my dishes are being washed, my sheets are being dried, and the floor in the "litterbox room" is being mopped. Maybe I'll set another servant the task of sweeping a floor.

I love having robot minions.

how do your robotic minions deal with clutter or other obstacles? i'm living in a bit of a clutterfactory. :(

they're a bit out of my price range right now, but how can you put a price on regular battles of Roomba vs. Cats?

I put all the clutter on top of things. I don't know how well they'd deal with most clutter -- tiny things they'd vacuum up, cords or bits of shirt they might try to vacuum up, and big things they'll just go around.

Scoobas in particular are pricey :-( Sadly the only roomba/cat battles I have are who can do what to the floor! (TMI, I know!)

So honestly what do you think of the scoba, we are thinking about getting one but our floor gets reallty dirty with 7 housemates.

It's kind of high maintenance compared to a Roomba, because it's still an early model. But I still adore it. I so don't want to mop that floor that often!

The dirtier your floor is (or the faster you get it dirty), the more effective it would be. My biggest issue with the scooba is that my battery doesn't stay charged when I leave it plugged in. I have to unplug it, and then plug it back in and wait for it to charge. Otherwise, if I start it after a couple of weeks, it runs out of power after a 1/4 of a tank. If I could justify running it twice a week in the kitchen, I think it would be just fine.

The scooba is also fairly slow, but it's effective. I wouldn't have the patience to scrub and soak the floor for an hour.

You do have to make sure the floor is reasonably clean ahead of time. You only want it cleaning up basic dirt and spills, not big chunks of food.

Does the scooba (or the roomba for that matter) get into corners?

It gets as well into corners as a round object can fit in a square corner. The Roomba has a little sweeping brush thing that tries to draw dirt out of areas it can't reach. The Scooba just missing a few inches at each edge.
