Holy moly! I waited over a year for these guys, maybe close to two, checking their web site every month only to be told "our order queue is too long, check back in a month" every darn time. Then I just plain forgot about them. I figured things would never improve.

But a LJ-friend of mine said that she has just received her Herseys. So I looked. And they're taking orders again!

I sent them e-mail asking whether, in my situation, they'll want casts of my feet or just tracings and measurements.

If they are willing to do shoes for me, which isn't at all a given, it could mean I could have closed toes for rain and snow. It could mean I don't spend $50 every three weeks on shoes that fall apart. It might even mean I could go to a job interview in shoes that don't cause massive pain, because maybe the Herseys could be made to look somewhat normal.

Fingers crossed.

I think I'd suggest the foot-casting method. I measured, and I'm not sure the shoes are as comfortable as they might be. They're close, but they feel a little tight around the top. I'm lacing them loosely and seeing how it goes. I'm used to wearing too-big sloppy shoes, so I'm sure there'll be some adjustment. They have a long wait -- 6-9 months -- so I think it's probably good to do the intiial part as carefully as possible.

I hope they can come up with something for you!

That's good to know. Thanks for the tip! I hope yours are just a matter of getting used to snug shoes again; it sure would be annoying to have to get them redone!

At first glance, I thought the subject line said "Hershey". And I was like, what, they were out of stock?

There has got to be some intersection between chocolate lovers and foot fetishists.

Me too... and wondering why CJ would have to place an order rather than driving to the grocery store. But I guess some days you just need a lot of chocolate....

Some days there isn't enough chocolate in the world. Mmmmmmmchocolate!

Wheras I read it as "Heresy". "Yes, I'll take one serving of 'Hail Satan!' with a side order of 'God's name in vain' please"

(oops. wrong icon. fixed.)

There are people who think "Heresy" and "Hershey" are synonymous. Me, I just love chocolate. ;-)

Nah, that's just blasphemy. For heresy, you need to get really close. Say, stumbling into monothelitism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monothelitism)--that'd do it.

geez. I don't even know enough about religion to be a proper heretic ;)

This place sounds ultracool!

Um, just a thought, but maybe it would be wise to wait on these until you've seen the pain doc in NY, just in case the doctor has some specific things for or about your feet that will affect your order.

Hersey's seems to be the gold standard for custom shoes.

Good point on the pain doc. They won't be able to start cutting and stitching my shoes for a good six months, either way.

Ooo, excellent! I'll hope like mad for good shoes for you! :)

Thanks! It'll be fall before I see 'em, even if they do make them for me, but hey, that'd be way better than never. :)

People who don't have foot problems just don't get it. There's nothing better than happy feet. You go, girl!!

No kidding! COMFY FEET!
