Broken Watch
Broken Watch

This was not what I wanted to see this morning when I went to get a cup of tea. It was fine when I put it on after my shower!

You know what this means, right? It means I have to go to... (cue ominous music)... THE MALL. That's where the repair shop is.

But will they repair it? If it's a Movado won't they ship it off to them?

That's one reason I quit wearing a watch. My stupid Swiss watch needed a battery and it was such a pain getting it changed.

(Nice watch btw!)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's a Movado-only authorized sales and repair shop. I wouldn't set foot in the mall for any less desperate reason!

(PS: thanks! I visited that thing in the store for over a year before I finally took the plunge and bought it. I love it.)

Oddly, it's still keeping time just fine.

It's nifty spiff. I sold Movados for awhile and I love the style, but I am a doof and I need my numbers or at least ticks to read it.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the sleek no-ticks design of this one, but yeah, it takes some getting used to, doesn't it? I sure hope the face can be replaced.

What in the HELL did you do to your beautiful watch???

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Um... wore it? Seriously, I don't remember so much as tapping my wrist against anything, nor any sudden temperature changes. It's very odd.

[identity profile] tiger-spot.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Eek!

(This is why I buy cheap watches. None of this pesky fixing business. Yours is pretty, though.)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, for years I had cheap watches, until I foolishly, romantically, and irresponsibly fell in love with this one. OH WELL!! :-) I've worn it without mishap for years now, probably more than ten of them, so I don't feel too terribly awful about having to do an errand after all this time.

If you have Friday off from work, you can just go to the mall then.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you are a funny guy!!

[identity profile] shoutingboy.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I am indeed given to quiet irony.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Tell ya what. If you'll give me a piggyback ride... ;-)

[identity profile] shoutingboy.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Heck, I'll do that any time you like!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Then we'd make a perfect mall-going team! You provide the feet, and I provide the shopaholism! ;-)

the battery in mine died on my last day of work at palm (my previous one died the day after my checkride, they're funny like that). i love the watch but replacing batteries is such a pain i tend to just stop wearing one until i eventually buy a new one.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Replacing batteries in waterproof ones is especially annoying, because a basic place like Long's won't get the pressure seal right. It needs a real watch shop.

When I bought this watch I really didn't consider the future errands. That's unlike me. I'm the kind of person who refuses to buy dry-clean-only clothing and who for years wouldn't cut my hair because I would then have to keep cutting it over and over again.

Oh, really? Hm.

Which mall has the watch repair shop? Valley Fair? What's left of Valco? (IS anything left of Valco? I haven't been over there in years.)

I have become totally mall-o-phobic over the past few years. If I can't buy it in a single store or over the internet, I won't buy it at all.

If I'm going to a mall with a Sears or Target ... I go into the Sears or Target, and leave without going into the mall.

I'm fine with large numbers of people - I have no problem walking through downtown Chicago or San Francisco during Rush Hour - but I find the majority of people at the mall ... well, annoying.

Of course, I'm the type of geek who doesn't go shopping until something highly specific is needed.

Valley Fair.

As you might imagine, I'm mall-phobic too. Heck, I was mall-phobic when I could walk that kind of distance. People in malls move slowly and erratically and are never looking where they're going. If I have someplace I want to be, and I'm making a good faith effort to get there, the vast mass of human speed bumps can really tip me over the edge.

I have this vision of you and I stalking the halls of Valley Fair; you on your scooter, and me standing shotgun with a marshmallow shooting rifle.
