Ugh, not a fan. I love California, but I don't miss earthquakes a bit. They scare the crap out of me.

Yeah, earth underneath you generally behaves in a more predictable fashion than that... I sort of count on it for that quality.

My friend mactavish described it as "jittery, like dragging a big rock along rubber". That part I don't mind. The rolling, wave-like motion I've experienced before I also don't mind. That sharp drop = BAD.

Gimp or not, I can get outta the house really damn fast.

Funny thing - I sort of miss them. Not a whole lot. But they sure did keep you from getting too compliant. And despite the risk of a major quake, I prefer the occasional jiggle to tornados, hurricanes, ice stormes and other nature nasties.

That was my and sicarii's first earthquake since moving out here from VA. Her reaction was, pretty much, "Fuck this noise, I wanna go home".

Little ones I don't mind, and in fact I think that like you I would miss them. For major damage I'd rather have warning. O'course, in return for No Warning Before The Big One, I haven't had to shovel snow for eighteen years. It's a good bargain so far! :-)

i'm sure there's a method to the madness of earthquakes, but i much prefer the natural disasters that can be seen and planned for, like snow and tornados.
