shake, rattle, and roll

Ooo, I didn't LIKE that.

Ugh, not a fan. I love California, but I don't miss earthquakes a bit. They scare the crap out of me.

It wouldn't have been half bad but for the sharp drop at the beginning. Me no like sharp drop.

[identity profile] wooddragon.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, earth underneath you generally behaves in a more predictable fashion than that... I sort of count on it for that quality.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] mactavish described it as "jittery, like dragging a big rock along rubber". That part I don't mind. The rolling, wave-like motion I've experienced before I also don't mind. That sharp drop = BAD.

Gimp or not, I can get outta the house really damn fast.

Funny thing - I sort of miss them. Not a whole lot. But they sure did keep you from getting too compliant. And despite the risk of a major quake, I prefer the occasional jiggle to tornados, hurricanes, ice stormes and other nature nasties.

Yep - California - the Shake and Bake state.

Little ones I don't mind, and in fact I think that like you I would miss them. For major damage I'd rather have warning. O'course, in return for No Warning Before The Big One, I haven't had to shovel snow for eighteen years. It's a good bargain so far! :-)

It doesn't cost much to pay someone to shovel for you...

Here's hoping you never have to see the flip side of the bargain!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, now that never occurred to me. But of course there would be people who would shovel driveways for money.

Thanks! :)

That was my and [livejournal.com profile] sicarii's first earthquake since moving out here from VA. Her reaction was, pretty much, "Fuck this noise, I wanna go home".

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Aw bummer. Well, welcome to California, anyway! I hope she's not too shaken up.

[identity profile] just-cyd.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yay! you're OK!! been meaning all day to drop you a line to see how you fared, but it got a little nutso 'round here. crossing my fingers for no lingering aftershocks or "one more for good measure" blips.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, lots and lots of aftershocks. Another nice one just rolled through about twenty minutes ago. But it's fine, really; this isn't Serious Big Stuff.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, even the aftershocks get their own web pages!

[identity profile] just-cyd.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
i'm sure there's a method to the madness of earthquakes, but i much prefer the natural disasters that can be seen and planned for, like snow and tornados.

that link is *fascinating*!!! y'all stay pretty busy with the shaking, at least on a low level. *shudders*
