What gets me thinking "instant blues" about that cartoon is the lack of hobbies, family, new challenges, etc. My perspective on it changes drastically if I imagine that what is depicted is not meant to be the whole of a life.
That plus chocolate and olives, yep. Which is why each of us is looking to do an overhaul of the whole thing sooner or later. :)
(Well, it's not quite that bad. I have friends, family, kitties, books, square dance calling, and some occasional time to fly. Adding good hobbies makes an ENORMOUS difference to that picture.)
That cartoon illustrates fairly well why I stopped playing the computer game "The Sims". My internal monologue would go like this: "my sims need to take out the trash." "*I* need to take out the trash!" "my sims need to make dinner." "*I* need to make dinner!" "my sims need to get some sleep." "*I* need to get some sleep!" It made my life feel utterly utterly boring.
Ouch! A Sim's behaviors are supposed to be close to ours, yet we KNOW it's a soulless bunch of bits. I might not enjoy too much of that comparison either!
I credit my current "life overhaul" thoughts to my foot problems. I had to ditch most of the fun hobbies, and all of a sudden, the picture didn't work any more.
Somebody told me a while back that I'd dig some gold out of this muckpit, and I couldn't imagine how but was certainly willing to admit the possibility. This may very well be it.

I can see the problem
Well, Steps 3, 4, and 5 could go, but nobody pays us to do Step 6.

Actually, I kinda like this life.
I could do without my eyeballs drying out from the screentime, though.
