No kidding!

I can see the problem

It's step 6! Eliminate Step 6!

Well, Steps 3, 4, and 5 could go, but nobody pays us to do Step 6.

Personally, Step 7 seems to be the one that gets minimized in my life.

Agreed! Never ever.

I don't do steps 3 & 5... well, they're on a train. I get lots of reading done on the train. And sudoku.

Actually, I kinda like this life.

I could do without my eyeballs drying out from the screentime, though.

Train commutes do have that advantage.

What gets me thinking "instant blues" about that cartoon is the lack of hobbies, family, new challenges, etc. My perspective on it changes drastically if I imagine that what is depicted is not meant to be the whole of a life.

[identity profile] meep.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah -- that sucks. There's no other... um, chickens.... in that portrayal, as a start.

[identity profile] layer.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
and yet, that's kinda how we're living it now, isn't it?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That plus chocolate and olives, yep. Which is why each of us is looking to do an overhaul of the whole thing sooner or later. :)

(Well, it's not quite that bad. I have friends, family, kitties, books, square dance calling, and some occasional time to fly. Adding good hobbies makes an ENORMOUS difference to that picture.)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I credit my current "life overhaul" thoughts to my foot problems. I had to ditch most of the fun hobbies, and all of a sudden, the picture didn't work any more.

Somebody told me a while back that I'd dig some gold out of this muckpit, and I couldn't imagine how but was certainly willing to admit the possibility. This may very well be it.

That cartoon illustrates fairly well why I stopped playing the computer game "The Sims". My internal monologue would go like this:
"my sims need to take out the trash."
"*I* need to take out the trash!"
"my sims need to make dinner."
"*I* need to make dinner!"
"my sims need to get some sleep."
"*I* need to get some sleep!"
It made my life feel utterly utterly boring.

Ouch! A Sim's behaviors are supposed to be close to ours, yet we KNOW it's a soulless bunch of bits. I might not enjoy too much of that comparison either!

ouch!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I want hobbies and a social life and some time spent outdoors, thankyaverymuch!
